Marcus Rashford has one less hurdle to face if he changes his mind about wanting a future at Manchester United following the departure of Ruben Amorim as head coach.
Ruben Amorim didn’t see eye-to-eye with Marcus Rashford from the moment he arrived at Manchester United.
The 28-year-old had been struggling with confidence following a significant dip in performance. Amorim opted to overlook Rashford before he was sent on loan to Aston Villa for the second half of last season.
Rashford enjoyed regular football at Aston Villa, but learned that he would have to train away from United’s first team group when that loan deal expired last summer. These strict instructions were imposed by Amorim and directed at others, including Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho.
Ruben Amorim’s BIGGEST MISTAKE at Manchester United was ________________
✍️ Fill in the blank…
A dream move to Barcelona materialised, and now it is understood that Rashford wants to extend his stay in Catalonia. The United Academy graduate will be judged on his performance as Barcelona eyes trophies this season.
However, United’s decision to sack Amorim means that there could be a way back for Rashford at Old Trafford.
Here are three points why the next United head coach should avoid bringing Rashford back to the club ahead of next season.

Ineos want rid of Marcus Rashford’s salary
Since taking control of football matters at United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos chiefs have wanted to reduce high earners like Rashford to manage the club’s large wage bill.
This helps United to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
Barcelona agreed to cover most of Rashford’s wages this season, but it would be even more beneficial to United if they received a transfer fee when the temporary deal expires.
Rashford’s contract is said to be worth £325,000-per-week and runs until 2028.
Now Ruben Amorim has been fired, do you want Marcus Rashford to have another chance at Man Utd?
Marcus Rashford made his intentions clear at Barcelona
Rashford is enjoying himself at Barcelona. A concoction of regular football and warm weather in a beautiful city.
During an interview in October, Rashford revealed his intentions to stay at Barcelona beyond his loan spell.
“For sure,” the United loanee said when asked if he wanted to stay in Spain.
“I’m enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player it is an honour.”
There may have been a way back had Rashford expressed the same passion about returning to his boyhood club.
Marcus Rashford’s last two seasons at Man Utd
After an incredible 2022/23 season, during which Rashford scored a total of 30 goals for United, he experienced a significant downturn in form.
The performances from Rashford between 2023-25 nosedived, especially at United. It wasn’t until he joined Aston Villa and Barcelona on loan that he started to rediscover his form and get back into the England squad.
In the 2023/24 season, Rashford scored seven goals in 33 appearances. He would score five goals for United in the following campaign before joining Villa in January.
This form stained Rashford’s reputation at United and led to his fallout with Amorim. It would be best for all parties to go their separate ways because United are in the process of rebuilding the squad and Rashford is happy at Barcelona.
