Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ruben Amorim promise left out one unspoken reality for Man Utd boss

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has silenced any lingering doubts over the future of Ruben Amorim this week with his comments.

After a difficult start to the season, Ruben Amorim was under big pressure last month, with talk of his future being widely discussed around the club.

However, United’s win against Sunderland was the result needed to hand Amorim a bit of respite from the pressure around him, pushing the club up the table and continuing an impressive expected points tally.

To further ease the pressure, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has backed Amorim, explaining that he is prepared to give the Portuguese head coach three full years.

This would mean until the end of his contract, which is July 2027, with an optional year extension. This isn’t too far away, meaning Amorim needs to get things ticking as soon as possible.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe cannot guarantee Ruben Amorim three years if results continue

There have been improvements this season, with Opta’s supercomputer showing United are fourth on expected points, something that will hopefully balance out.

If it does, United will be back, and there will be plenty of praise for Ineos sticking with Amorim; however, if things don’t improve soon, Ratcliffe’s promise of three years could look very silly.

Particularly because Ratcliffe cannot promise Amorim the three years he has, as on current form over the 11 months he has been in charge, United would be almost relegated.

The reality for Amorim is plain and simple: he needs to win games immediately; that is the only way he will save his job from being once again under pressure.

Ratcliffe’s backing of Amorim is good to see, ending the cycle of managers being thrown under the bus, but now all attention needs to be on the head coach winning games.

Manchester United’s season could be defined in the next four games

There has been a major disparity this season between United’s performances and the results, with the Red Devils deserving much more than what has been earned.

However, with Senne Lammens fixing the goalkeeping problem to avoid Altay Bayindir making mistakes leading to goals on a game-by-game basis, there should be a far better defensive record.

Additionally, now Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo have started building a relationship with goals coming more frequently. Now, United need to pick up some momentum and form.

Eight points from the next four would be a massive success for United and a sign of things finally turning good.

First, United need to pile the misery on Liverpool and hand them a fourth successive defeat.
