Ruben Amorim is the biggest winner with £38m Rasmus Hojlund deal now at ‘advanced stage’

Manchester United are at an “advanced stage” to finalise a big-money sale of Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli.

Ruben Amorim publicly defended Rasmus Hojlund during his goal drought at Manchester United last season, but his intentions became clear over the summer.

Rasmus Hojlund tumbled down the pecking order over pre-season and was subsequently frozen out of Amorim’s first-team squad.

Despite Hojlund wanting to stay at United and compete for a starting spot, a loan deal with Napoli was agreed which included an obligatory buy clause if the Italian side secured Champions League football.

Since completing the switch, Hojlund has impressed at Napoli and now Antonio Conte’s side are looking to bring a deal forward.

Ruben Amorim decision over Rasmus Hojlund vindicated

Even though Hojlund has been in great form for Napoli at the start of the season, there won’t be many complaints from United fans about the new front three brought to Old Trafford by Amorim.

It felt as though selling Hojlund could be a mistake for United, but the immediate impact of Benjamin Sesko has proven that Amorim and Ineos made the right call.

Alongside Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo, Sesko has helped to transform United’s attack, and Amorim is delighted with his new front line.

Sesko has already scored twice for United in the Premier League, meaning he is already half way to reaching Hojlund’s tally in 2024/25, and he is yet to get going.

Gary Neville unfairly criticised Sesko for not settling in as quick as Mbeumo and Cunha, but the fact is that he is already proving to be an upgrade on Hojlund.

£38m Rasmus Hojlund deal now imminent

Hojlund was signed for £72m by United, but it quickly became clear that Ineos would struggle to ever recoup that money following his struggles in the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano has said that Napoli are pushing for a £38m Hojlund deal to be done as soon as possible so that it can become permanent in January.

Now, The Mirror have echoed Romano’s words and revealed that United’s talks with Napoli are at an “advanced stage”, with both clubs eager to strike a permanent deal for the Dane.

United have cut their losses on Hojlund and brought in an upgrade in Sesko. It’s a win-win for all involved, and especially for Amorim after he made the bold call to freeze out Hojlund in the summer.
