Speculation around Ruben Amorim’s future at Manchester United has gone quiet and suddenly pressure is building on Liverpool boss Arne Slot.
Ruben Amorim is enjoying his first Premier League win streak as Manchester United head coach having won three consecutive games.
In that win streak, United beat Liverpool 2-1, recording a first win over our arch-rivals at Anfield in nine years.
Amorim played mind games with Arne Slot and came out on top, leaving the Dutchman seething after the full-time whistle about United’s long-ball strategy.
When asked in his press conference, Amorim dismissed Slot’s comments and moved on. But beating Liverpool always means a little more to United, and especially Amorim.

Ruben Amorim is proving Liverpool wrong
Ineos moved quickly to appoint Amorim in November 2024 after sacking Erik ten Hag following his poor start to the season.
Omar Berrada pushed to appoint Amorim over any other managerial candidates, and Ineos have stuck by the Portuguese coach through a disastrous first season.
But before United even moved for Amorim, he was being linked as a potential successor to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
As per The Times, Amorim ranked at the top of Liverpool’s metrics for a new manager, including topping the charts for keeping players fit.
However, Liverpool calculated it would take “£400m” to re-equip their squad to play in Amorim’s system.
Quite ironic given that Liverpool spent £450m this summer to go backwards under Slot. Liverpool lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace on Wednesday meaning they have now suffered defeat in six of their last seven matches.
Ruben Amorim has found his home at Man United
The honesty and transparency of Amorim made him a favourite among fans even during the 2024/25 season when United were struggling.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly backed Amorim after a poor start to this season, and now the Portuguese coach is starting to turn things around at Old Trafford.
Amorim dreams of staying at United for 20 years. He speaks highly of the club, its history, the fans and the culture – a perfect fit.
There is still a long way to go in Amorim’s rebuild, but suddenly his target of winning the Premier League is starting to look realistic.
Meanwhile, Liverpool find themselves in a crisis with Slot having broken several transfer records in the summer.
