Rene Hake was only a coach at Manchester United for five months, yet he has now exposed on big problem within the squad.
It has almost been two months since Erik ten Hag was sacked by Manchester United, with the Ruben Amorim era now in full flow.
Before the Portuguese head coach made history at United, Ruud van Nistelrooy was promoted to interim for a successful four-game spell while he waited out his gardening period.
However on day one of Amorim’s official tenure starting, most of Ten Hag’s staff were kicked to the curb.
This included Rene Hake, who only joined the club in the summer, leaving his management position at Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands to work alongside Ten Hag.
Now the 52-year-old has spoken out for the first time about working for United.

Rene Hake makes concerning admission about Manchester United squad
Very few United fans would have suggested Ten Hag’s spell as manager of the club was cut short, in fact, it was probably long, long overdue.
But now an admission from Hake suggests that the Dutchman was doomed to fail.
Speaking with Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur, the former United coach made a revelation. Hake praised four United players but suggested others were not so well trained.
“Sometimes a player will say: ‘At this moment, I’d rather not change anything about my game.’ That’s okay, you accept that too.”
While Hake says he accepted this, he probably shouldn’t have had to as the whole point of having coaches is to help the players change and evolve on the pitch, especially after a worst-ever Premier League campaign.
So if the squad is not willing to learn, it will be hard for any manager to succeed and successfully implement a style and tactic. This could explain why Ten Hag seemed incapable of implementing a style of play.
Which will make grim reading for Amorim.
Ruben Amorim is having more success than Erik ten Hag at changing players
We are six games into the Amorim era at Manchester United and already, some players seem to be evolving and growing to fit into the new system and roles that Amorim has implemented.
Pep Guardiola has praised Amorim’s work prior to the derby on Sunday, admitting he can see patterns of play – which suggests that the 39-year-old’s message is getting through.
This is something that never really happened in two years under Ten Hag, with United lacking any identity on the pitch during his time in charge.
It is pivotal that this continues. However, hopefully, any players who are refusing to learn or adapt their game will be sold during Ineos’ rumoured 2025 axing within the squad – only six players are safe.
Amorim is the man to get United back on top, and the club must back him above the players – something which has not happened at United all too often.
