Peter Schmeichel’s latest Manchester United prediction speaks volumes about Ruben Amorim’s current reign at Old Trafford amid the 2025-26 Premier League season.
Manchester United are currently sixth in the Premier League table and the Red Devils dropped valuable points in the opening months of the current campaign.
How confident are you Manchester United will beat Leeds in the first game of 2026?
Our recent record against Leeds is very impressive, they have not beaten us since 2010 👀
The Red Devils are three points adrift from fourth-place Liverpool after 19 Premier League matches and United could have been in the top four at times this season.
However, Ruben Amorim has been unable to deliver back-to-back Premier League wins on a consistent basis for the Red Devils since his reign began in 2024.
The 40-year-old United manager still has the second half of the 2025-26 campaign ahead of him, but the pressure of securing European football for next season is on.

Peter Schmeichel’s Premier League prediction for Man Utd paints the full picture under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford
Manchester United hosted Wolves at Old Trafford in their final Premier League match of 2025 and showed their complacency once again in the current season.
Ruben Amorim watched on from the Old Trafford dugout as a relegation-threatened Wolves found the equaliser against United before the half-time whistle on Tuesday.
United were unable to restore their lead in the second half against the worst Premier League team of the 2025-26 season and had to settle for a point from the 1-1 draw.
Was that Matheus Cunha’s worst game so far for Manchester United?
What went wrong? Was Cunha trying to do too much?
Speaking after United’s result, Peter Schmeichel said that the Red Devils finishing fifth or sixth in the Premier League table would be a positive sign this season.
“I think fifth or sixth,” he told Viaplay, as per the Metro.
“Fifth is good, but they’re fighting with another couple of clubs that are doing quite well. But I think that’s the level that Manchester United are at.”
United legend Schmeichel also suggested that a key part of his Red Devils prediction hinged on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha delivering for Amorim’s side.
How many goals do you think Bryan Mbeumo will finish with this season? ⚽
“With the signings of [Matheus] Cunha and [Bryan] Mbeumo, they should be able to do fifth or sixth,” he explained.
Schmeichel added: “If fifth gives access to the Champions League, I’d be delighted.”
Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha can only do so much for Man Utd and Ruben Amorim in the 2025-26 season
If it is not Bruno Fernandes, then it is Bryan Mbeumo. If it is not Mbeumo, then it is Matheus Cunha. If it not Cunha, then it is either Bruno Fernandes or Mbeumo.
And rinse and repeat, as United shift between three key players to bail the Red Devils out when things are getting tough and a result is needed under Amorim.
Amorim’s ‘weakness’ has been clear as day, with the United first-team squad still entirely dependent on the impact of one or two key players for a result on the day.
Mbeumo has been away at the 2025 AFCON tournament with Cameroon and United captain Fernandes has been sidelined with an injury after the 2-1 Aston Villa defeat.
All the attention was on Cunha to produce magic against former side Wolves on Tuesday evening and the 26-year-old summer signing’s performance fell flat.
Amorim is stuck in a cycle of United needing the exploits of certain players per match rather than the team collectively coming together to secure three points consistently.
