Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville raised his eyebrow at one major decision that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim made in the Premier League match against Wolves.

Manchester United hosted Wolves at Old Trafford for their last Premier League fixture of 2025, which ended in bitter disappointment for the Red Devils.

Wolves have been in dreadful form in the 2025-26 Premier League season and Rob Edwards’ relegation-threatened side managed to collect a point on Tuesday.

Joshua Zirkzee fired the Red Devils into the lead in the first half at Old Trafford, but Ruben Amorim watched his side blow another lead in their league campaign.

Wolves hit back against United ahead of half-time, with Ladislav Krejci scoring a superb header to cancel out Joshua Zirkzee’s 27th-minute opener in the clash.

Man Utd legend Gary Neville is deeply puzzled by what Ruben Amorim did in the Wolves draw

Manchester United were unable to re-establish their lead at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, with Wolves putting in a resilient Premier League performance.

Despite scoring in the first half, Joshua Zirkzee did not feature in the second half after United manager Ruben Amorim pulled the striker off after the half-time whistle.

Ruben Amorim later explained why Zirkzee was withdrawn after the first half, with teenage midfielder Jack Fletcher coming on for United in the Wolves match.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville admitted that he could not work out in the moment why Amorim decided to remove wantaway United striker Zirkzee.

“He’ll point to injuries and AFCON,” he said.

“But every team is in a similar situation. I’m not sure what happened with Zirkzee. If he’s not injured, it’s a bizarre substitution to make.”

Gary Neville’s warning to Ruben Amorim after Man Utd’s 1-1 draw against Wolves at Old Trafford

Neville suggested that Amorim must be ready to weather the storm of criticism coming his way after the Red Devils’ deeply disappointing display against Wolves.

“It’s going to be painful for Ruben Amorim,” he said.

“He’s going to get serious questions in his press conference.”

The 50-year-old United legend added: “There will be a painful aftermath for Ruben Amorim.”

United’s result against Wolves means they will finish 2025 in sixth place in the Premier League table, with fourth-place Liverpool two points clear with a match in hand.

The Red Devils will now travel to Elland Road for their first Premier League match of 2026, with United facing Leeds United in a 12:30pm kick-off on Sunday.
