One Ineos transfer was doomed to fail when club chiefs were shocked at £50m bid

Ineos have improved Manchester United’s recruitment record but one transfer will be remembered as a complete failure.

This summer, Ineos are focused on overhauling Manchester United’s midfield with three signings expected to arrive at Old Trafford.

Last summer, the priority was to add goals and firepower and Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko have been a huge success. At the other end of the pitch, Senne Lammens was United’s best signing.

It is also up to Ineos to improve United’s sales, and one player who could (should) be headed for the exit is Manuel Ugarte.

Manuel Ugarte to Man United was doomed to fail

Ugarte was signed from PSG for £50m back in 2024, with Ineos identifying the Uruguayan as a replacement for the outgoing Scott McTominay.

Signed at twice the price of McTominay, Ugarte has played like half the player.

According to iNews, PSG sources questioned why United were willing to pay £50 million for Ugarte when he had dropped “well down the pecking order” in Paris.

Now, United are looking to cut their losses. Ugarte has been told to leave this summer and find a new club.

Ineos must learn from Manuel Ugarte failure

Ironically, Ugarte was meant to be the long-term replacement for Casemiro, yet he is now leaving Old Trafford at the same time as the Brazilian.

Now, Ineos are back in the market for another Casemiro replacement. This time, they cannot afford to get it wrong.

Kobbie Mainoo needs a fitting partner in United’s midfield, and Ineos are looking at Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes, Ederson, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali.

Ineos have had success with Premier League-proven players – something that Ugarte severely lacked. The hierarchy at United should also avoid ever signing a player who has fallen down the pecking order at his old club.
