Michael Carrick’s ultimate praise for Casemiro’s longevity in football could not have led to a better comparison from the Manchester United interim head coach.

The 44-year-old Manchester United legend held his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of the Red Devils’ encounter with Liverpool on Sunday.

Casemiro was one major talking point that Michael Carrick addressed, with the 34-year-old Brazilian midfielder currently set to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

The five-time Champions League winner has only four Premier League matches left in his United spell before his contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of June.

Michael Carrick’s admiration for Casemiro’s career has the Man Utd legend recalling his own experience as a player

Casemiro has enjoyed a strong run of form under Michael Carrick this season and has netted five times in his last 13 Premier League matches for the Red Devils.

The Manchester United star has silenced his critics, including Jamie Carragher, after he was essentially ‘written off’ at playing at the top level after his blip in form.

“With Case, that has been the case,” Carrick told the media at the Carrington training complex, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“Knowing what he is good at, what he can bring to the team, [playing] to his strengths and having trust in his experience and the level that he has.”

Casemiro already enjoyed incredible success in his career long before his Man Utd arrival in 2022, having been a core part of the Real Madrid midfield for some time.

The longevity of the former Real Madrid star led to Carrick recalling his own time as a player, with the Man Utd interim boss bowing out at the top level of football.

“To play so long at such a level takes a lot, a lot of sacrifice,” Carrick added.

“It is something I am personally proud of sustaining for a period of time. Some players have different careers [with] big spikes and dips.

“To do what he has done takes a lot of work and a lot of credit.”

Michael Carrick is showing rightful praise for his own underrated career amid his Casemiro appreciation

‘Underrated’ has become the keyword that is now synonymous with Carrick, who enjoyed incredible success at Old Trafford as a player at Man Utd.

Whether it was playing alongside Paul Scholes or a whole host of prolific other midfielders in the sport at times, Carrick is often forgotten about for his ability.

Carrick has never been raved about in the same way as world-class former players like Paul Scholes, but there is no denying his talents as a midfielder in football.

By the time he bowed out of football in 2018, the 44-year-old midfielder had netted 24 times and registered 35 assists in 464 matches for the Red Devils.

There was no going to the MLS or some other random league in world football, but rather Carrick left on his own terms and knew it was the right time to retire as well.

“There comes a time when your body tells you it is time to stop,” he said in 2018, as per BBC Sport.

“That is where I am at.”

Carrick was cruelly overlooked for his midfield talents as a player, and in the modern-day format, he could easily walk into any team in world football with his abilities.

The United legend’s appreciation towards Casemiro overcoming a tough period is a deserved reminder of what Carrick pulled off during his own underrated playing career.
