Michael Carrick can put his stamp on this Manchester United squad and his midfield expertise can revive Mason Mount’s career.
Mason Mount has been desperately trying to get his career back on track at Manchester United since his £50 million move from Chelsea, with little success.
But one thing remains consistent throughout Mount’s career – he is loved by managers. Erik ten Hag was a huge admirer, Ruben Amorim confessed his “love” for Mount, and Carrick has also piled praise on his attitude and work ethic.
The foundations are there for Mount to become a star at Old Trafford, but because of his injury record and inconsistency, it hasn’t quite happened. But Carrick has the tools to finally click things into place.

Is Mason Mount out of time at Manchester United?🕰️
How much would United even be able to get for him?💰
Mason Mount can become a central midfielder under Michael Carrick
United needed a midfield rebuild this summer, and it has begun with a £48m deal for Andrey Santos.
More midfield signings will arrive to bolster a very thin department that currently only includes Kobbie Mainoo and academy players.
But according to The Sun, Mount is prepared to accept a deeper midfield role in this United squad under Carrick.
Manuel Ugarte is injured, and the Ederson deal has collapsed, so United’s midfield plans are being reshaped.
It could include a change of role for Mount, but his performances last season suggest Carrick may finally have a solution to get the most out of the 27-year-old.

Mason Mount’s midfield move can be genius, he plays like Nico Paz
Towards the end of last season, Mount starred in midfield playing alongside Kobbie Mainoo in a 3-0 win over Brighton.
It was one of Mount’s best performances in a United shirt, and it came at a time when the Red Devils were desperate for a midfield solution.
According to DataMB, Mount’s data aligns very closely to that of World Cup breakout star Nico Paz, who has been linked to United as well as Real Madrid.
Mount cannot match the output of Bruno Fernandes in an attacking role, but in a slightly deeper role he is able to use his mobility and technical ability to progress the ball from defence to attack.

Carrick excels at coaching midfielders, and clearly he has spotted something in Mount that could make him strong in a central position.
United still need to invest heavily in their midfield options, but adding Mount to the squad depth in a deeper position can only be a good move.
