Manchester United can be one of the best teams in English football this season, Ruben Amorim is on the right track

Manchester United are among the best teams in the Premier League, and have a platform to prove it.

Nobody came into the 2025/26 Premier League season predicting Manchester United could win the title, and right now, nothing has changed.

However, United are proving to be a very competitive team, who will be in the mix for the European places at the end of the season.

And after such a horrific 2024/25 season, European qualification was the objective. There is a long way to go – but we like what we are seeing.

Manchester United rally through tough start

Manchester United have had one of the toughest starts of any team in the Premier League this season, facing last season’s top four inside the first eight games.

United beat Chelsea and Liverpool, while suffering defeats against City and Arsenal. The recent win at Anfield was a major statement.

The Arsenal game was one United really should have won – and if we had, Ruben Amorim’s side would be level on points with the Gunners on 16 points.

The next fixtures are certainly testing, with United facing two more top 10 teams in the next three, taking on Brighton and then Tottenham, with Nottingham Forest in between.

Once United get through those, hopefully with three victories, the fixtures begin to soften up. The Red Devils will have faced seven of the other nine teams occupying the top 10, with Bournemouth and Crystal Palace the only exceptions.

One of the challenges that United have struggled with is facing the so-called lesser teams.

Results have been mixed this season, with defeat at Brentford and a draw at Fulham. The one consolation is that home form has been strong, with victories against Sunderland and Burnley.

It is still a small sample size, but there have been signs of improvement from Manchester United this season, and there is a lot more to come from this squad.

Manchester United players will deliver more

Manchester United have no European football at all this season, and this means less opportunity to rotate, it also provides more rest, and more time on the training ground.

For this Manchester United squad and coaching staff, it is exactly what is required.

United’s start to the season has been solid, and solid was what was required after a shaky 2024/25. With a tranche of summer changes, it would have been wrong to expect it to click perfectly straight away.

Bryan Mbeumo is showing what he can do, while Matheus Cunha is looking promising. However, he is yet to score.

Amad is also yet to score this season, while Bruno Fernandes has only provided one assist.

Cunha, Amad and Fernandes will each end the season with high numbers, they are too good not to, while Benjamin Sesko will continue his encouraging start too.

The time to judge Manchester United is not after 8 games, it is after 38, and we are confident that when the season is done, Ruben Amorim will have established the team as one of the best in England, that can aim even higher next season.
