Manchester United head to Anfield this weekend, looking to add to Liverpool’s miserable form.

Despite not winning at Anfield since 2015, if Manchester United are going to end the winless streak, there won’t be a better opportunity than this weekend.

Liverpool have lost three on the bounce heading into this game, with United unbeaten at Anfield in the past two seasons.

However, form can often go out the window in a game like this, which could give one player the chance to return to his best.

Manuel Ugarte’s best game for Manchester United came vs Liverpool

It was only summer 2024 when Manuel Ugarte joined United from PSG; however, his future beyond this current campaign looks uncertain at best.

Italian clubs are circling for Ugarte, as the Uruguayan has struggled to cope with the Premier League, with this season being just as poor as the majority of last season.

However, returning to Anfield may be what Ugarte needs to find some form. January 2025 saw a wounded Red Devils side headed to face Liverpool, and it was in this 2-2 draw that Ugarte had his best game for United.

The performance from Ugarte impressed supporters, convincing fans that the defensive midfielder had finally arrived at the club, although it was a false dawn.

Now, Ugarte needs to draw inspiration from this performance this coming weekend.

Ruben Amorim could turn to Manuel Ugarte vs Liverpool

This season has seen Amorim rotate between Casemiro and Ugarte in the midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes, with neither really grabbing the role as their own.

However, this weekend could be the occasion that Amorim wants the intensity of Ugarte in midfield, especially after Casemiro played a full 90 minutes for Brazil this week.

This season will define the Uruguayan, with Amorim and United still believing in Ugarte, but he needs a big performance to kick his campaign into life.

If United are to claim three points, it will take big performances from the midfield, which would be out of character based on this season to date.
