Man Utd should swoop for player compared with Paul Scholes – he’s already on the transfer list

Manchester United could use an influx of talent in the midfield, with one excellent option now available in January.

Despite Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo being excellent options as first-choice midfielders, beyond these two Manchester United are lacking quality.

The midfield combination of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen has been a complete disaster when utilised together.

Beyond these, it is the United academy where Ruben Amorim would have to look for options.

So this month, with United looking to get rid of Casemiro and Eriksen, it would open up a door financially for an addition to be made.

Manchester United could sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for cheap

If United intend to add a first-team-ready option to the midfield ranks, Ineos should look no further than returning for a player chased briefly last summer.

In March 2024, United were linked with making a move for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after his impressive Championship season with Leicester.

However, before his move to Chelsea, the 24-year-old Paul Scholes compared Dewsbury-Hall ruled himself out of making a move. This before the Blues spent £30m to reunite him with Enzo Maresca.

Now, it is claimed by Fabrizio Romano that Dewsbury-Hall is being allowed to leave Stamford Bridge in January in the event of a good bid for all parties – after playing just 11 times this season with 59 minutes in the Premier League.

Chelsea told Dewsbury-Hall he was for sale in December and he has been available since then which makes this seem like a fairly simple deal for United to complete.

With his stock dropping since the summer, Chelsea would probably be inclined to accept a bid of around £20m – which would be a steal for his quality. Alternatively, perhaps United could arrange a loan with an option to buy would also be a solid option.

The question on this deal however is where would he fit into the team for United and Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim could use versatile Dewsbury-Hall in two positions

United need quality players who can play within the demands of Amorim’s expensive and high-tempo system – something only Mainoo and Ugarte have proven themselves capable of so far.

Dewsbury-Hall however could play within the midfield two for United if signed, representing a solid alternative to Mainoo alongside a more defensive option.

However, he may be an even better fit as a backup to Bruno Fernandes, considering his elite creativity, ball-carrying and also finishing.

Such a versatile talent would be a really interesting addition to Amorim’s squad if a swoop was made. However, it does seem unlikely considering his age of 26 and the lack of upside in the player.

It is a signing that would have fans fearing the worst after the Mason Mount debacle – but it would be relatively low risk for the fee and wages.
