Jadon Sancho’s contract at Man Utd has officially expired, but another player who walked the same path is interesting Man Utd.
June 30th, 2026, will mark the end of an error for Man Utd, as the giant contract given to Jadon Sancho in 2021 finally comes to an end.
To say that the transfer was a failure would be a massive understatement, because Sancho firmly ranks as one of United’s worst-ever signings, if not the worst.
Then why are United interested in a player who has walked the same path, and why is this time set to be different?

Where did it all go wrong for Jadon Sancho? Is he the biggest Man Utd flop of ALL TIME?
It's finally official – Jadon Sancho is gone
Felix Nmecha is of interest to Man Utd
Man Utd’s midfield rebuild has hit a snag at the “Premier League proven” tag, as every midfielder in England they’re going for is seemingly worth more than £80m now.
With Ederson sealed, they might have to look outside England for their second signing as well, and that’s where Felix Nmecha comes into the picture.
Nmecha is freshly eliminated from the World Cup after a shock loss on penalties against Uruguay, but he largely shone in the tournament.
The defensive midfielder has walked the same path as Sancho, coming through the Man City academy when Jason Wilcox was there, before refusing a contract at the club and going to Germany.
There is a detour at Wolfsburg in the middle, but Nmecha has really come to life at Dortmund, now catching Man Utd’s eye for a potential summer move.
In a window where United are being held to ransom, Nmecha for around £60m would be a smart buy, even if he has tread the same path as Sancho.
Nmecha separated himself from Sancho at Man City
Sancho set the world alight at City, but ask people at the club, and they were perfectly happy to let him leave, because the lack of professionalism had already started in England.
Pick your DREAM summer midfield rebuild within the reported budgets…
Who is the first name you want?
There were some instances of being late to training, and when Pep Guardiola was manager, he didn’t take kindly to these transgressions.
Those traits lent themselves to becoming a chronic issue with Sancho at Man Utd, when an unstable environment brought out the worst in him.
Nmecha, in contrast, was seen as a model professional at City, and despite their best efforts to keep him, he bet on himself and signed for Wolfsburg.
That determination and drive to improve have led to him becoming a German international, and today, he’s being linked with a return to England.
He’d be driven to prove Man City wrong by signing for United, and in Wilcox, United have someone they can get Nmecha’s background from, which wasn’t the case when Sancho was signed.
The path might be the same, but Nmecha has already separated himself from Sancho. This time, it will be different.
