Palmer is United’s dream signing because his fit as one of the two No. 10s behind the striker in a 3-4-2-1 is tantalising. However, there’s a reason why Palmer is a “dream” signing, and that’s because Chelsea would never let him go of their own accord.

Man United fans are plenty enjoying Chelsea games of late, mainly because of Jadon Sancho’s struggles for Chelsea but the struggled have had a byproduct.

Maresca recently admitted that Palmer will be asked if he’s happy to stay at Chelsea if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League, something that’s looking increasingly likely.

It goes without saying that United won’t be in the Champions League next season either barring a miracle run in the Europa League.

In that scenario, Palmer could well relish the challenge of becoming the poster boy of his boyhood club to try and restore the club to its former glories.

United would very much welcome that development because he’s the sort of signing that can galvanise the whole club and the story writes itself.
