Man United missed £60m Alejandro Garnacho opportunity that could have saved Ineos’ summer

Manchester United are finding it difficult to offload Alejandro Garnacho this summer after his fallout with Ruben Amorim.

The Europa League final marked the end of an extremely disappointing season for Manchester United, and it also spelled the end of Alejandro Garnacho’s time at the club.

Ruben Amorim told Garnacho to find a new club after hearing his comments in the aftermath of the Europa League final. The United boss reportedly said: “You better pray that you can find a club to sign you.”

Garnacho criticised Amorim’s team selection and tore into United “not beating anyone” in the Premier League.

Now, Garnacho has not been invited to pre-season training, making him one of five players who have formed a ‘bomb squad’ at Carrington.

Man United should have sold Alejandro Garnacho in January

Back in December, Amorim dropped Garnacho for the Manchester derby at the same time as Marcus Rashford was frozen out.

Unlike Rashford, Garnacho did make a comeback to rejoin the squad but there were strong links that he could have been sold in January.

Chelsea held talks over Garnacho in January, with United demanding around £60m for the Argentine winger.

Garnacho was open to joining Chelsea as he wants to continue his career in the Premier League, but a deal never came to fruition.

However, United are still trying to sell Garnacho this summer and it seems that Ineos will no longer get the £60m they were looking for.

United’s transfer window has stalled over Bryan Mbeumo, with Ineos unwilling to meet Brentford’s £70m valuation. But if Garnacho was sold in January, the Red Devils would have had a much bigger budget to play with from the start of the summer.

Alejandro Garnacho is closing in on Man United exit

Not much has changed since January, with Garnacho still wanting to stay in the Premier League.

Chelsea could still move for Garnacho, although the Blues are yet to re-open talks with United after holding discussions in January.

Recent reports suggest Garnacho could be swapped for Nicolas Jackson, while Aston Villa have also shown interest.

Garnacho wore a Villa shirt this summer which caused controversy among the United fanbase, and it seems he could now follow in Rashford’s footsteps by making a move to Birmingham.

United are interested in Emiliano Martinez, so there are also opportunities for Garnacho to be used in a potential exchange deal for the World Cup winner.
