Ruben Amorim has now seen one Manchester United warrior show that he is ready to play a key role for him in the 2025-26 season after the win over Bournemouth.
The Red Devils were in action in Illinois for their latest pre-season friendly match, which was played in the early hours of the morning on Thursday for UK-based fans.
Manchester United met Bournemouth at the Soldier Field and Ruben Amorim’s men came out on top in the Premier League Summer Series fixture in Chicago.
Goals from Rasmus Hojlund, Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo and Ethan Williams ensured that United defeated Premier League side Bournemouth 4-1 in Thursday’s clash.
The Cherries offered little in response to the Red Devils’ display, but Bournemouth pulled one back against United after Matthijs de Ligt put the ball in his own net.
Amorim’s side have now enjoyed back-to-back wins on their pre-season summer tour of the United States, following United’s 2-1 victory over West Ham last Sunday.

Casemiro’s pre-season preparation was on full display in Man Utd’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth at the Soldier Field
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim played Casemiro in the midfield pivot alongside Red Devils skipper Bruno Fernandes for Thursday’s 4-1 win in Chicago.
Casemiro played 71 minutes in Amorim’s tactical system for United before the 33-year-old Brazilian midfielder made way for Red Devils talent Tyler Fredricson.
The ex-Real Madrid ace appeared fitter than he has ever been in a United shirt, with Casemiro putting in a real shift across the pitch against Bournemouth in the match.
Casemiro’s performance for the Red Devils was not only spotted by United fans, but also by the media as well, with the Brazil international earning high praise.
The Manchester Evening News awarded the ex-Los Blancos star a seven on their 10-point scale, with Casemiro putting in an “understated performance” for his side.
Casemiro was able to showcase his superb defensive qualities in the midfield pivot and allowed Bruno Fernandes to roam more freely on the pitch against the Cherries.
What Ruben Amorim said about Casemiro is only reinforced by the Man Utd midfielder’s improved physique and fitness
Amorim spoke about Casemiro’s lack of Premier League minutes under him back in January and the 40-year-old Portuguese coach had not written off the midfielder.
“Sometimes it’s a system fit – sometimes it’s the player’s [form],” he told TNT Sports ahead of United’s 2-0 win over FCSB, as per BBC Sport.
“We know that Casemiro nowadays has other qualities. He’s intelligent, understands the game and knows where the ball is going to be.”
Amorim added: “But, we are in a league where there is a big intensity difference. Therefore, I feel our team needs players with high intensity and sometimes we don’t have them.
“We all know Casemiro’s qualities and everything he has won, so I have nothing to add to that. It’s just a selection choice.”
Fast-forward to the summer and Casemiro became a key United first-team player for Amorim, having impressed in the Europa League run to the final last season.
However, Casemiro’s transformation was noticed by United fans during the start of the pre-season tour, with the Brazil midfielder arriving in incredible shape.
With a new Premier League season around the corner and Brazil’s 2026 World Cup campaign ahead of him, Casemiro should not be slept on for what he can still do.
