Ineos broke their Man Utd transfer philosophy for only one player, they’ve been clearly vindicated

Ineos have brought some much-needed clarity of approach in the transfer market for Man Utd, but the one player they broke their philosophy for is quickly vindicating them massively.

The signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo continue the good work done by Ineos since taking over the club’s operations last summer.

Overall, counting some young players who have gone on to make their senior team debuts, Ineos have brought in more than 11 players, good enough for a whole new team.

They have staunchly stood by one philosophy during all this time, except in the case of one player. He has been on a mission to make them feel vindicated.

Ineos broke their philosophy for Leny Yoro

Benjamin Sesko is seeing it now, Viktor Gyokeres has seen it already, and Ruben Amorim hasn’t been afraid of making it clear publicly many times.

Ineos have operated with a clear stance in the transfer window that they would only bid for the player if the said player makes his interest in joining Old Trafford obvious.

There are no bidding wars anymore, nor is there any scope left for convincing the player who has his heart set elsewhere, especially by paying higher financial terms.

All the signings made under Ineos follow this philosophy, except for Leny Yoro.

Yoro famously wanted to join Real Madrid and had his heart set on Spain. United were outside favourites at best, hopeful onlookers at worst.

Such was Madrid’s confidence to secure Yoro that they kept offering low sums to Lille, hoping they would be pressurised into accepting, or Yoro would just run down his contract the year after.

United weren’t going to be deterred. Sensing some laxity in Madrid’s approach, they blew the Spanish team’s offer out of the water financially.

Now that their bid was accepted, they launched a charm offensive to convince the player, bringing the cavalry together, headed by Rio Ferdinand.

Not only did they break their philosophy of not entering a transfer race, but they also went the extra mile to turn the head of a player everyone was convinced was Madrid-bound.

Yoro is repaying Man Utd’s faith

Yoro’s start at Man Utd wasn’t the best, with injury issues and the odd bad game taking the shine off moments that were legitimately world-class at times.

However, in the pre-season so far, Yoro has started to make good on predictions that he would eventually become the best centre-back in the world.

He is starting to combine his ever-improving skills on the ball with the physicality and combativeness needed to succeed as a centre-back in the league.

Yoro doesn’t turn 20 until November, so the growth he has already shown to come out of a chastening season and improve says it all about the player’s mentality as well.

This is the potential for which Ineos were willing to break ranks and launch a full operation to secure his signature.

The glimpses are turning into games, and Yoro is repaying United’s single-minded determination to secure his signature.

The sky is the limit for him, and as a consequence, for United.
