Under Ruben Amorim, every Manchester United player is expected to be starting on a clean slate. This gives £55m flop Mason Mount a golden chance to redeem himself and save his Old Trafford career.
On paper, signing Mason Mount was a superb idea, however, in actuality, the £55m move from Chelsea has been an absolute disaster.
Erik ten Hag handed the Mount the most famous shirt number at the club. Since then, the 25-year-old has donned the number seven shirt, a move which was wildly unpopular at the time and today looks completely baffling.
This was because Alejandro Garnacho was expected to inherit the shirt from Cristiano Ronaldo. However, ultimately it was Mount’s horrendous injury record at Manchester United that made him a transfer flop rather than his performances.
Having missed most of this season so far, Mount returned in a cameo for Ruud van Nistelrooy against PAOK in the Europa League, but will now be looking to kick on under new head coach of United, Ruben Amorim.

Mason Mount has a fan in Ruben Amorim
Encouragingly since Mount returned to injury earlier this month, there have been no issues and he seems to have played a key role in Amorim’s plans during training this week.
In one training clip from Monday, Amorim could be heard shouting praise at Mount, this as he completed a nice move with Tyrell Malacia on the left side.
Mount has been tipped to shine under Amorim by Ineos, according to reports, with the £55m player expected to suit the new system perfectly – assuming he can remain fit and firing.
With Mount in the United team earlier this season, the pressing structure was far more effective than without him. So with Amorim’s demands on pressing – perhaps Mount’s qualities will lend themselves well.
But how can Amorim get the best from Mount?
Manchester United could now see the best version of Mount
So with Mount’s qualities likely to be useful to Amorim – it could be that we see a completely different version of the £250,000-a-week player unleashed upon Ipswich.
It could come through the 39-year-old coach doing something Ten Hag never tried.
Despite Mount being a marquee singing for Ten Hag, the Dutchman never figured out where he wanted to play him.
Bruno Fernandes was undroppable in Mount’s preferred No.10 position – but now both can play this role on either side of the striker.
Amorim’s 3-4-3 system allows both to play as an inside forward/attacking midfielder hybrid – which could suit both perfectly as they can work well today.
Mount’s United career may just be beginning. But only if he can stay fit this time.
