Ineos set out ‘Project 150’ in 2025, which targeted winning the Premier League title to mark the club’s sesquicentenary in 2028. But events this summer mean the goal could be achieved 12 months early.
Manchester United are currently on a 13-year drought without a Premier League title, but Ineos have been working to change this ever since taking charge in 2024.
To put a timeframe on it, Ineos kick-started ‘Project 150’, which was to win or at least closely challenge for the league by the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
Signings like Youri Tielemans are with ‘Project 150’ in mind, and Michael Carrick’s success last season has moved the timetable slightly. Ineos believes they can challenge for the title next season, with changes of manager around the rest of the top five meaning United are potentially Arsenal’s main contenders.
But the World Cup hasn’t been kind to Mikel Arteta this summer, which means United must scrap the timetable and go for gold this coming season.

Manchester United could see Arsenal have a slow start during 2026/27
The 2026 World Cup is reaching its climax in the next few days, and pre-tournament concerns of injury were slightly overstated despite some clear examples. United have lost Manuel Ugarte to an ACL injury, but have been relatively unscathed besides this.
But for Arsenal, the true effects of this tournament are going to hit home in the coming weeks.
Ahead of a title defence, there is plenty for Arteta to be concerned about.
- William Saliba – Exited France vs Spain with a back injury
- Declan Rice – Been clearly injured all tournament, but pushed to play through his issues
- Bukayo Saka – Issues on and off throughout the tournament
Three of Arsenal’s most important players, all dealing with issues and playing through pain and injury for their nation spells bad news for the Gunners next season.
Saliba was saying, “My back is gone”, as he exited the pitch for France, having missed games earlier in the tournament, with his issue said to be ‘chronic,’ which sounds similar to Matthijs de Ligt.
Rice has been carrying a hamstring injury and back discomfort through the tournament, performing nowhere close to his usual levels, and has potentially aggravated his issue by playing this summer.
Finally, Saka has an achilles injury that has been long-term, but playing through it will only worsen the situation.
All three could need prolonged rest after the tournament, potentially surgery, having also played through parts of last season injured as well. This could seriously hinder Arsenal’s start to the season and give United a chance to get off to a great start, becoming the team to beat.

United have a golden opportunity, with Arsenal a much worse side without the three players who are arguably their most important, and historically they have struggled without them.
So now is the time for United to make a proper push for the title next season, worst case it will set Ineos up to win it all the season after anyway.

Ineos should go all out this summer for a Premier League title charge
The transfer window thus far for Manchester United has been very strong, but if there is a chance to take advantage of external struggles, Ineos must push forward and ensure Carrick has the best possible chance.
By signing another midfielder, a left-back, and a versatile forward or two, United would tick a lot of the boxes needed this summer and could have a squad capable of competing for the title.
United may ultimately fall short if the title is targeted next season, but by aiming higher, the club should achieve more than if the decision makers were to aim lower.
The title is winnable next season. Ineos needs to realise this and take advantage of Arsenal’s misfortune and the poor handling of their players.
