Manchester United will now have to search for different right wing-back options, with Geovany Quenda set for Chelsea.
Friday brought the news that Manchester United had missed out on the signing of Ruben Amorim’s former wing-back from Sporting.
The Portuguese wonderkid was long tipped as being a top option for United this summer, with Quenda already reported to have agreed personal terms with United.
The deal is off the table though, with United missing out on Quenda to Chelsea after they agreed to pay £63m which is a figure Ineos could not afford.
Due to this, United will now be looking into alternatives, with there being five possible players Amorim could consider putting into his squad.

Roger Fernandes
One possible signing United could make as an alternative to Quenda could be Braga’s Roger Fernandes.
United have been looking at Fernandes as the alternative to the Sporting wonderkid as United in Focus understands, yet he could actually be the better player right now.
Roger Fernandes stats 24/25
| Stat | # | Percentile |
| Shot-Creating Actions | 3.28 | 92 |
|---|---|---|
| Progressive Passes | 4.66 | 78 |
| Progressive Carries | 4.32 | 98 |
| Successful Take-Ons | 1.90 | 98 |
| Tackles | 2.59 | 81 |
| Interceptions | 1.38 | 89 |
| Blocks | 1.55 | 84 |
Fernandes is just 19, yet has been very impressive in the Primera Liga, with stats which make him a perfect option option to fill the right wing-back position.
He could be even better than Quenda.
Bendito Mantato
Finances will be tight this summer, which could mean United actually have to look closer to home in order to find a new right wing-back for Amorim.
Therefore, Bendito Mantato could be the perfect Quenda alternative with his qualities very similar to the youngster Amorim brought through at Sporting.

Mantato is ultra-talented, with physical qualities which should give him the edge in being fast-tracked to senior football by Amorim.
Amorim gave 27 academy debuts at Sporting, so there is no reason he won’t trust the youth at United, with Mantato a leading candidate to follow in Chido Obi’s footsteps.
Jeremie Frimpong
If United were to go for a more ready-made option, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong could be an excellent option.
After holding a long-term interest in the Dutchman, United retain an interest in Frimpong ahead of this summer as United in Focus understands.
Frimpong is also wanted by Liverpool and Manchester City which makes it a difficult ask for United to win the race considering current circumstances, along with the financial peril.
It also goes against Ineos’ desired transfer recruitment plan of signing young talents.
Jaydan Kamason
Another academy option for United to promote into the role could be Jaydan Kamason, who has been impressing for the U18s.
Kamason has become impossible for Amorim to ignore with his consistency and evolving offensive game for United over the past few months.
Kamason could save United millions, and alongside Mantato he is right up there as the best option to full in at this position.
Dilane Bakwa
One slightly more left-field option for United could be Strasbourg’s Dilane Bakwa, who is one of Europe’s leading attacking full-backs.
Dilane Bakwa stats 24/25
| Stat | Per 90 | Percentile |
| Shot creating actions per 90 | 3.93 | 98 |
| Progressive passes per 90 | 4.47 | 74 |
| Progressive carries per 90 | 4.00 | 97 |
| Successful take-ons per 90 | 1.73 | 96 |
Bakwa would be an excellent option for United, with his seven Ligue 1 assists sure to catch the eye, however, there is one issue.
Chelsea owns Strasbourg and so would surely not let United sign him for cheap, if at all. Therefore this possible cheap swoop could quickly become unattainable.
