After Ruben Amorim got sacked by Manchester United on Monday morning, it was U18s lead coach Darren Fletcher who was picked to take charge of the game against Burnley.
United only managed to draw 2-2 with Burnley, although the performance was deserving of much more, as Benjamin Sesko scored twice, doubling his tally for the season.

The goals came as a direct result of changes Fletcher made from Amorim’s system, with Patrick Dorgu getting an assist with a great cross from wide.
While the other goal also came due to a change the current interim made in moving one player’s position.

This season, Fernandes has been used as a number six by Amorim, but the latest all-action attacking display came as Fletcher used him in his favoured and most dangerous number 10 role.
But by doing so, Fernandes was spared the defensive duties that often made the midfield imbalanced, instead focusing on creating and scoring.

Fernandes is arguably the best attacking midfielder in the world, yet Amorim spent months trying to turn him into a deeper-lying midfielder.
This decision had a net negative on the team, both in the number 10 roles and also deeper in the midfield as a partner to Casemiro, with the pairing never really working sustainably.
However, even if it was working for Amorim, taking Fernandes away from the penalty area was a bad decision and likely one that ended up costing him his job.
Fernandes will be a 10 under whoever comes into the club next as caretaker manager, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer likely to get the best from him if given the chance.
Despite playing so deep, Fernandes’ numbers are insane, demonstrating how unstoppable he is, almost averaging a goal contribution every game.
It was a successful move, undoing Amorim’s error, and now he could return to the player he was in his prime, which might mean somehow even more goals and assists.
