Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is closing in on an incredible record.

Bruno Fernandes recorded yet another assist for Manchester United to lead the team to a 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

Fernandes now has a staggering 18 assists in the Premier League in 2025/26.

This means that with five games remaining, Fernandes needs only two more to equal the Premier League record, and three to clinch it outright.

Even to reach 18 is a real achievement. But considering the irrepressible form Fernandes is in, you would back him to get at least two more assists.

Fernandes has really hit top gear since Michael Carrick took over as Manchester United head coach, and the proof is in the numbers.

ANOTHER assist for Bruno Fernandes! Surely now he breaks the record!!!

Bruno Fernandes assist breakdown

Bruno Fernandes has 18 assists for Manchester United in the Premier League this season. They are almost evenly split between his managers.

Manchester United’s captain also leads the Premier League for chances created, by a considerable distance.

Fernandes created 67 chances in 20 games. Remarkably, if he did not play a single game this season after Amorim was fired, he would still lead the league for key passes.

Declan Rice is second in the league on 59 chances created.

Impressively, since Michael Carrick was appointed, Fernandes has played at an even higher level.

In the 12 games under Carrick, Fernandes has contributed eight assists. One fewer than under Amorim, in eight fewer matches.

He should probably have even more. He is creating chances at a prolific rate.

Fernandes has created a total of 45 chances in the 12 games under Amorim – the same number Phil Foden has created all season for City.

Where does playing Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role rank among Ruben Amorim’s mistakes?

Carrick is playing Fernandes in a more attacking role

Bruno Fernandes’ attacking improvement under Michael Carrick can be directly attributed to the change in tactics.

Ruben Amorim played Fernandes in a deeper role, as one of two central midfielders.

In addition to this cutting Kobbie Mainoo out of the starting XI, it also took Fernandes further away from the Manchester United attack.

Fernandes made the best of it, but he did not provide an assist in the league until the ninth game of the season, setting up Harry Maguire’s winner at Anfield.

This slow start makes his assist record chase even more incredible.
