Benjamin Sesko took his PL goal tally to 11 against Liverpool, but Matheus Cunha’s action with him afterwards should fill Man Utd fans with confidence.
Michael Carrick has achieved what looked like a bold objective of UCL qualification with three games to go.
He did so in a statement fashion, beating Liverpool 3-2 at Old Trafford courtesy of goals from Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, and Kobbie Mainoo.
Sesko’s goal was the scrappiest of the lot, but for what it means to Man Utd, Cunha’s reaction after Sesko scored might just be the proof that he’s the missing piece.

Man Utd beat Liverpool 3-2 … Let’s hear your INSTANT REACTION!
Matheus Cunha called out Benjamin Sesko
Because Sesko scored, it is forgotten that he missed the chance to hand Bruno Fernandes an assist just minutes before.
Fernandes crossed beautifully from the right wing, and Sesko fluffed the chance under pressure from the Liverpool defender.
He fell to the ground, waiting for a foul to be given for him, which is a call that never came, as Luke Shaw whipped in a cross soon after.
Fernandes headed back into the danger area, which Sesko pushed in, but Cunha didn’t forget what happened just minutes before with the missed chance.
Immediately after Sesko scored, Cunha went to him and, after celebrating for a while, went off on him for missing the earlier chance.
He could be seen wildly remonstrating with the Slovenian, demanding more of him and dragging more clinical finishing out of him.
Sesko listened patiently and said his part, but Cunha’s reaction is exactly what United have been missing at the club beyond Bruno Fernandes.
Cunha’s reaction shows he’s the missing piece
The goals and assists have been nice for Cunha, but the mentality shift he’s brought about at Carrington is the biggest plus this season.
It’s OFFICIAL – Man Utd will be in the Champions League in 2026/27 – Give us your reaction!
He demands accountability from his teammates and keeps them on their toes regardless of the result, because he knows that the process is more important.
That’s the kind of presence United have missed in their dressing room beyond Fernandes, and even he got written off as impatient and petulant at times.
The reality is that modern football lacks characters like these, who wear their heart on their sleeve and demand accountability from their teammates.
The fact that Cunha didn’t forget that Sesko missed an easy chance and fell to the ground despite scoring after is evidence that he’s the missing piece in the United dressing room.
The standards are being restored at the club, and Cunha is driving that change.
