In contrast, Ayden Heaven has gone from strength to strength at Man Utd after arriving as an unheralded academy player from Arsenal.

Heaven was thrust into an unexpectedly large role during his debut season at Man Utd due to an injury crisis, and he emerged from it with his reputation enhanced.
From that high, the 2025/26 season was a huge low for him, as the club’s elimination from both cup competitions made it so that the season finished in just 40 games.
Heaven’s role was greatly reduced as a result, something that could have put him off after tasting the success of a first-team role.
However, he has preached perspective instead, recently saying that not many teenagers regularly start for Man Utd, and he’s just working hard with patience.

He said: “I know I’m young, obviously, and I’ve got to be patient, especially in my position. You don’t see a lot of 19-year-olds playing week in, week out. It’s nothing personal, and I’ve just got to be patient. I’m waiting for my opportunity.”
The biggest thing which works in Heaven’s favour is that he looks good whenever he does get the chance to play, as evidenced by these two pre-season games as well.
With United back in four competitions this season, Heaven’s patience will see him get rewarded in a way Garnacho closed the door for himself.

Like Heaven, Garnacho was thrust into the first team due to some injury worries, and he quickly became the first name on the teamsheet.

Accolades and a new deal followed, and Garnacho clearly started thinking of himself as the saviour of a club that had been standing tall for more than a century before he was even born.

He attacked the manager and the club, and held them to ransom in the market for a move that has crashed and burned inside one year.
Had he been patient and worked hard, he could have been a part of United’s squad today as they go back into the Champions League with a manager who loves developing young attackers.
Instead, he is in a last-chance saloon at Aston Villa, trying to recapture his Man Utd form.
Heaven could see Garnacho’s fate, and he has learned from that critical error to stay level-headed.
