Andre Onana spent a season on loan at Trabzonspor in the Turkish Süper Lig, which is a significant step down from playing for Manchester United and Inter Milan. It may be a sign of what the future holds for the Cameroonian goalkeeper.
It will be a quiet summer for Andre Onana in terms of international football because Cameroon failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which also came as a blow for Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo.
This means Onana can spend the summer making arrangements for his future, which appears to be away from Old Trafford after Senne Lammens cemented the role as United’s first-choice keeper in his debut season.
Trabzonspor want to keep Onana beyond this summer, granted they can reach an agreement with United and persuade the former Ajax stopper to sign a permanent deal.

Andre Onana may have found his new level
Although Trabzonspor had a decent season, finishing third in the Turkish Süper Lig, Onana is probably hoping there’s either a way back to United or he can find a bigger club than the Turkish outfit.
A problem Onana may encounter is whether any of Europe’s elite clubs are willing to take a risk on him after his previous struggles at United.
When issuing Trabzonspor’s intent to keep Onana by offering him a new deal, the club president expressed doubts over whether the 30-year-old will attract the same level of interest elsewhere.
“I don’t think he’ll [Onana] find the same level of interest in him anywhere else,” Ertuğrul Doğa said, as quoted by Hurriyet Spor.
While Doğa may be stressing how much Trabzonspor want to keep Onana, the comment could also come as a slap of reality for the keeper, who once played in a Champions League final.
After a decent season in Turkey, it remains to be seen where Onana will be playing his football next season, but he may be left with little choice in the matter unless more potential suitors emerge to challenge Trabzonspor.

Man Utd currently have four first-team goalkeepers
Altay Bayindir may be linked to a move away from United this summer, but as things stand, Michael Carrick’s squad consists of four goalkeepers now that Onana’s loan has come to an end.
United don’t need four goalkeepers, and Tom Heaton recently agreed terms over a new one-year deal.
On top of that, Lammens is number one. United are also eyeing Karl Darlow as a potential free agent option this summer.
It doesn’t sound like there will be room for Onana at United.
