Alejandro Garnacho’s career has hit an embarrassing low point less than one year after he left Manchester United.
It has been just under 11 months since Manchester United agreed a £40 million fee from Chelsea for Alejandro Garnacho.
Looking back, United will feel incredibly smug about their decision and their valuation. Garnacho scored just one Premier League goal for the Blues in 2025/26.
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are now hoping to sell Garnacho this summer after he failed to impress at Stamford Bridge.

What is your message to Alejandro Garnacho after Man Utd do the double over Chelsea in 2025/26…
Alejandro Garnacho has completely ruined his career
Rewind 18 months and Garnacho was an exciting prospect at United who was adored by supporters and tipped to become a world-class superstar.
Now, he is unwanted and known more for his attitude and ego than his footballing ability. Garnacho’s haircut was a bigger talking point this summer than any of his performances in blue.
The 22-year-old only has himself to blame. As reported by BBC Sport, Garnacho has not turned up for Chelsea’s pre-season training.
New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso does not consider Garnacho part of his future plans, and the Carrington graduate needs to look inwards and reflect on what has gone wrong.
United fans will tell the story of Garnacho’s arrogance getting in the way of his talent. In his final season at Old Trafford, Garnacho publicly questioned Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final. His comments that night marked the end of his career.
After completing a move to Chelsea, Garnacho ignorantly suggested he was taking a “step forward” in his career.
“Sometimes in life you have to change things to take a step forward or improve as a player. It was the right moment and the right club, so it was an easy decision.”
Garnacho could not have been more wrong.
Was Garnacho’s ‘attitude’ the issue, or is he just not suited to the Premier League’s top level?
The grass is not always greener…
Not just Alejandro Garnacho, Man United must learn from this tragedy
Garnacho’s case is unique, but not unfamiliar; a young player who did not stay grounded and became romanticised with his own potential.
At United, key players tried to offer Garnacho guidance, but the reality is that he arrogantly put himself above the club and paid the price.
Under Ineos, the transfer policy has been focused on developing young players who can become superstars at Old Trafford or at least have a high valuation.

But it is important that lessons are learned from the Garnacho saga. United will be pleased with the £40 million fee they collected, but it could, and should, have been more.
United must ensure that the likes of Chido Obi, JJ Gabriel, Kai Rooney and Shea Lacey, all of whom have superstar potential, don’t follow a similar path.
