Ruben Amorim is set to take over at AC Milan, and the repercussions are reverberating around Europe.
It is fair to say that Ruben Amorim’s stint at Manchester United did not go well. One way to describe it would be ‘eventful’.
Alejandro Garnacho would probably describe the spell in harsher terms.
Garnacho fell out spectacularly with Amorim at the end of the 2024/25 season, blasting his coach publicly after he was not picked to start the Europa League Final.
He was eventually sold to Chelsea, where his career has taken a major downturn, failing to make the Argentina World Cup squad.

AC Milan wanted Alejandro Garnacho
Alejandro Garnacho’s Chelsea season was so disappointing that he has already been linked with an exit.
Chelsea sacked two managers in 2025/26, with Garnacho scoring only one Premier League goal.
Goal reported at the start of June that AC Milan were one of four Serie A teams monitoring Garnacho’s situation.
Ruben Amorim’s appointment immediately kills off AC Milan’s interest in Garnacho, and from the players’ perspective too.
Roma, Juventus and Napoli were the other three sides interested.
Was Garnacho’s ‘attitude’ the issue, or is he just not suited to the Premier League’s top level?
The grass is not always greener…
Garnacho never got the chance to play against Amorim
If Alejandro Garnacho wants to try and get some revenge over Ruben Amorim, then perhaps there will be an appeal of joining another Serie A team.
This was suspected to be part of the reason Garnacho chose to stay in the Premier League with Chelsea, to prove Amorim and United wrong.
But when Chelsea played Amorim’s United at Old Trafford in September 2025, Garnacho was an unused substitute.
By the time United visited Stamford Bridge later in the season, Amorim had been sacked and replaced with Michael Carrick.
Garnacho did play, but Chelsea lost anyway.
Perhaps he will have better luck in Serie A against Amorim’s AC Milan.
