Manchester United’s chances of signing Viktor Gyokeres this summer took a blow after the Europa League final.
Losing to Tottenham in Bilbao put a serious dent in Manchester United’s summer transfer plans, with no European football on the calendar for 2025/26.
United have been linked to Viktor Gyokeres since Ruben Amorim’s arrival as head coach in November, but a summer deal has become increasingly difficult.
Gyokeres has been linked to Arsenal, and United will find it difficult to outbid the Gunners given they are healthier financially and can offer Champions League football.
But United are desperate to add firepower to their squad this summer and there is one sale that could revive the deal.

Man United open to selling Rasmus Hojlund
The reason United are in dire need of a new striker is because Rasmus Hojlund has been in terrible form this season.
However, Hojlund has been linked to Serie A clubs all season and Ineos will be more tempted than ever to sell the 22-year-old this summer.
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, as per Sport Witness, United are open to letting Hojlund leave if they can cash in between £42m and £46m for his signature.
Hojlund wants to make history at United, but his poor performances suggest that he is not cut out to lead the line for the Red Devils.
United are closing in on Liam Delap in a potential £30m deal, but after just one season in the Premier League, there are understandable concerns whether the Ipswich forward would struggle with the same issues that Hojlund has faced.
United are in need of an experienced marksman, and Viktor Gyokeres ticks every box.
Man United still in race for Viktor Gyokeres
When asked about targets wanting European football, Amorim sent a warning to Gyokeres that United do not want players who are only keen to play in the Champions League.
If Gyokeres wants to reunite with Amorim at Old Trafford, he will have to concede not playing in Europe next season. It makes it a more difficult deal, but not impossible.
Gyokeres is expected to cost around £55m, which might be considered too expensive United before sales are made.
However, if Hojlund heads for the exit that could fund a mega bid for Gyokeres.
Gyokeres is a huge admirer of Amorim, and the Portuguese head coach gives United a good chance of luring the Swedish striker.
