Pep Guardiola’s comments on Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho have reemerged and have proven the Man City boss right.

Manchester United look set to allow Jadon Sancho to head on loan back to Borussia Dortmund in January after his position at Old Trafford became untenable.

The English winger fell out with Erik ten Hag in September following the United manager’s comments on Sancho’s training performances.

Since then, Sancho has been nowhere to be seen for United and been training with kids all while cashing his huge £300k-a-week paycheck.

This all seems about to end, at least temporarily with Sancho keen to return to Dortmund where he exploded onto the scene prior to his United move.

But as he likely prepares to depart at least temporarily, Pep Guardiola’s comments from 2019 ring truer than ever.

Pep Guardiola was right about Jadon Sancho

Speaking to the media in 2019 about the reasons for Sancho’s City exit, Guardiola issued a damning verdict on the winger and his attitude.

Guardiola explained: “I don’t know. He didn’t want to take this challenge [to fight his way into the first team], this opportunity to discover if he was able to.”

This statement at the time was dismissed by United fans who were keen to see Sancho grace the Theatre of Dreams, but looking back it was really a stark warning for Sancho and exactly what he’s done at United.

Things have gotten tough and instead of working his way into the good graces of the manager, he’s chosen the easy route and has effectively quit.

Sancho will go down among United’s worst transfers of all time

As things stand, if Sancho is to leave and ultimately never play again for United then there is every chance that he goes down among the worst signings in the club’s history.

Signed in the summer of 2021 for a whopping £73 million after what was a nearly two-year transfer saga, Sancho hasn’t justified any of it.

Sancho has made 82 appearances for the club while scoring 12 goals and contributing six assists. This equates to around £4m per goal contribution.

Ultimately the reason it feels so bad is that hopes were sky-high and many considered him the man United needed to get back to the top.

Sancho could yet prove everyone wrong with a strong loan spell and a return to United rejuvenated to play – but as of now, he’s just proved Guardiola right once more.
