Weghorst’s transfer to Manchester United was officially confirmed on Friday night. He has joined on loan from Burnley for the rest of the season, breaking a previous loan agreement with Besiktas.
The striker was not signed in time to feature in the Manchester derby, but could feature against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
An injury to Anthony Martial at the weekend highlighted a lack of depth up front, and there is a chance Weghorst even starts the game.

Ten Hag on Weghorst
Speaking to the club website, manager Erik ten Hag explained the transfer. He said: “He is a striker, and we had an open position there to fill in.
“I think in the balance of the offensive [players], he really fits in. I am really happy, and I don’t think we had the type what he is.
“Most importantly, he can score goals from everywhere and he was always a surprise at every club, in every league. That is also what I expect here.
“For here, I expect a team player and someone who can link up, a player who will do his defending work and we are really happy to sign him.”
United visit Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, before a match away at Arsenal next Sunday. The extent of Martial’s injury is unclear, but Weghorst is likely to be involved in both games regardless.
Erik ten Hag’s side are full of confidence after a 2-1 derby win at the weekend and Weghorst’s arrival will give the squad a real lift.
