Why Omar Berrada thinks Ineos have worked out Man Utd’s biggest problem since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement

Omar Berrada has explained why he feels that Ineos has truly understood what Manchester United must now do post-Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford at the end of the 2012-13 campaign after he led Manchester United to their last Premier League title in 2013.

The Red Devils have struggled to keep pace with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City since Ferguson retired as Man Utd manager.

Ineos and United chief executive officer Omar Berrada have been keen to restore the Red Devils’ prestige and lead the club back to the top of English football.

Omar Berrada thinks Michael Carrick’s appointment is a massive statement about Man Utd post-Sir Alex Ferguson

‘Project 150’ is believed to be a major objective for Ineos and Omar Berrada since British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner of Manchester United.

The Ineos regime at Old Trafford want United to capture the Premier League title by 2028 to coincide with the Red Devils’ 150th anniversary as a football club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team axed Ruben Amorim as Man Utd manager last season and Michael Carrick was brought to the Premier League club as interim head coach.

Michael Carrick has since succeeded Ruben Amorim on a permanent basis and Berrada felt his appointment is a huge call in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

“When we talk about what a manager should be, I think this club, since Sir Alex [Ferguson] left, has seen different profiles of managers, different styles of play, different systems,” he said on the Inside Carrington podcast, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“The way we look at it is you need the right coach for the squad that you have and what you’re trying to achieve over the next [few] years.

“I think Michael, over the last months, has demonstrated that he can do that.”

Omar Berrada on the importance of the Man Utd squad after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013

Outside of Michael Carrick becoming the seventh permanent United manager since Ferguson retired, Berrada turned his attention to the Red Devils’ first-team squad.

The 48-year-old Man Utd CEO added that Ineos are structurally overhauling Carrick’s squad to build the most effective team since Ferguson left Old Trafford.

“I think when we look at the squad and what we’re trying to do over the next two years, he does bring the right attributes, the right ingredients, character, understanding of the club to help us navigate through the next steps of our journey,” Berrada added.

Ferguson led Man Utd to all 13 of their Premier League titles and the 84-year-old iconic former Aberdeen boss is considered one of the best managers of all time.
