According to reports, Manchester United are keen on young Aberdeen talent Calvin Ramsay.

The Scottish Sun report United are among the Premier League sides eyeing a move for Ramsay.

So what can we tell you about the talented prospect?

1) Ramsay is an 18-year-old right-back enjoying a breakthrough season at Aberdeen.

2) He has made 14 appearances so far this season, including in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, where Aberdeen were unfortunately eliminated.

3) Ramsey has six assists in those appearance, which is part of the reason he’s caught the eye.

4) The defender recently made his debut for Scotland’s Under 21 side, in a 1-1 draw with Turkey last month. He has also played for his country at Under 16 and Under 17 level.

5) Ramsay has an Aberdeen contract until 2024, which means they are under no pressure to sell.

How would he fit in?

Presumably Ramsay would be a signing for Manchester United’s under-23 team, and not the senior squad – yet.

But right-back is a potential area of intrigue, given the reported transfer interest in Kieran Trippier.

United could sign Trippier for the here and now and Ramsay for the future, of course.

Ethan Laird is highly-rated and shining on loan at Swansea, while Brandon Williams is a natural right-back too.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is of course a long-term option, but question marks persist over his attacking output.

What they say

In August, Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass said he was ‘delighted’ with Ramsay’s progress after a game against Qarabag in the Conference League, as per the Scotsman.

“His performance level was brilliant throughout playing against a real top player or two on that side,” said Glass.

“It’s a great learning experience and it doesn’t look like he has to learn but there are little situations where he could have done better. He’s going to be a top, top player.”

WhoScored reel off that Ramsay has a huge amount of strengths: holding the ball, key passes, set pieces, dribbling, passing, crossing, interceptions and blocks.

Last month, BBC pundits Michael Stewart and Chris Iwelumo said Ramsay has ‘all the attributes you’d look for in full-back’.
