Wayne Rooney has now revealed what he has heard about Matheus Cunha from people at Old Trafford after the Manchester United summer signing’s arrival.
Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe wasted no time in the summer transfer market in getting Manchester United’s signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves across the finish line.
Ruben Amorim is a big fan of ex-Wolves ace Cunha and the Red Devils triggered the £62.5m release clause in the Brazil international’s contract at the Molineux in June.
Cunha became a United player ahead of the pre-season tour of Europe and the United States in July and August and has become a key signing for Ruben Amorim.
The 26-year-old former Wolves forward was handed his Premier League debut for the Red Devils on Sunday after Amorim started Cunha for United against Arsenal.

Matheus Cunha played the full 90 minutes on the weekend and the Brazil attacker impressed alongside fellow summer signing Bryan Mbeumo at Old Trafford.
The former Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig player was deployed on the left flank in the No 10 role of Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for Manchester United on Sunday.
Cunha impressed United fans with his overall display in the Premier League defeat to Arsenal and he linked up superbly well with former Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo.
Wayne Rooney has now revealed that he has spoken to “people” at United and they are “really pleased” with how Cunha has settled in at Old Trafford this summer.
“They had to change the attack,” he said on The Wayne Rooney Show, as per BBC Sport.
“The attacking players looked like they had lost a lot of confidence and some looked like they didn’t want to be there.
“Fair play to Ruben Amorim because he has dealt with that and he is trying to move all those players on.
“The attacking players they have brought in will make a big difference. Cunha is exactly what Manchester United need. They need someone with a bit of character.
“I still speak to people there and everyone has been really pleased with how he is settling in. He has a voice in there, which is what they need.”

Cunha was unable to break the deadlock or find an assist for United in Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal, despite his solid showing for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
Rooney has admitted that the former Wolves ace will be a top signing for United and has welcomed the attacking threat that Cunha can bring to the frontline for the club.
“When you have players who have that bit of edge, the other players who haven’t got that follow it and it maybe brings more out of them players as well,” he continued.
“Cunha is a really good signing from that point of view and then there is his ability on top of that as well.”
United will now travel to Craven Cottage on Sunday and will resume their 2025-26 Premier League campaign against Fulham.
