What Man United fans really think of Erik ten Hag as they deliver verdict in survey

The jury is still out on Erik ten Hag’s role as Manchester United manager, especially after another poor start to the Premier League season.

It was no secret that Erik ten Hag‘s position was under serious threat towards the end of last season with Ineos holding talks with several managerial candidates.

But an impressive FA Cup final win over Manchester City – paired with backing from the fans – meant that Ineos eventually stuck with the Dutchman and rewarded Ten Hag with a new contract.

Despite his new deal, there has always been a feeling that Ten Hag is still yet to convince the new owners that he is the right choice going forward, and a poor start to the 2024-25 season has only weakened his position.

Successive losses to Brighton and Liverpool have raised huge questions about Ten Hag’s future and the club owners have a “serious concern” about his role.

Manchester United fans vote on Erik ten Hag

Sick of the manager merry-go-round in recent years, the majority of United fans stuck with Ten Hag last season despite the poor league results.

Their voices were heard by Ineos, but confidence in the Dutchman is already dwindling just three games into the new campaign.

With opinion seemingly split on whether Ten Hag should stay or go, Manchester Evening News held a fan survey on the United boss.

Over 7,200 supporters responded to the survey and when asked if Ten Hag was the right man for the United job, 66 percent of fans said ‘No’.

A whopping 68 percent of fans also voted that Ten Hag would not be in charge of United by the end of the season.

Ineos must give Erik ten Hag time

After publicly flicking through their options over the summer, Ineos will look amateurish if they sack Ten Hag this early into the season.

They clearly decided that there were no better candidates available for the job so now they must stick with Ten Hag – at least for a few more months.

United have been urged to sack Ten Hag already, but if the emotion is taken away from the disappointing loss to Liverpool then there are positives to take from performances this season.

The new signings made over the summer look like good additions to the squad and United played some impressive football against Fulham and Brighton.

United have massively struggled in front of goal, missing more big chances than any other top-flight side. If that issue can be solved then it’s not too late for Ten Hag to turn things around.
