Manchester United fans could not overlook one moment involving Erik ten Hag and Ruud van Nistelrooy during the 0-0 Premier League draw with Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Red Devils were unable to snatch all three points on their visit to Villa Park, with neither the club nor Aston Villa producing an overly convincing performance.
Manchester United have only managed two wins in seven Premier League matches under Erik ten Hag ahead of the October international break.
Ten Hag’s men languish in 14th place in the Premier League table and the United manager has faced fierce criticism over the Red Devils’ lacklustre season.
Ahead of the trip to Villa Park, United blew a 2-0 advantage before coming from behind to secure a 3-3 draw against Porto in the Europa League last week.
United manager Ten Hag also saw a slip-up in the start of the Europa League campaign in September after FC Twente snatched a point at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag and Van Nistelrooy interaction
Ruud van Nistelrooy made his return to Old Trafford in the summer as part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff after he became one of two assistant managers.
Former Go Ahead Eagles boss Rene Hake took up the other assistant manager post under Ten Hag ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
One piece of footage from the Aston Villa clash of Ten Hag and Van Nistelrooy went viral on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, and caught the eye of United fans.
Ten Hag and Van Nistelrooy can be seen having a deep discussion while seated in the dugout, with neither man shying away from giving their opinions.
It remains unclear exactly what the United manager and assistant manager were exactly saying, but Sky Sports has since uploaded the official footage to its website.
United fans on social media conjured different theories on what Ten Hag and Van Nistelrooy were discussing amid the Red Devils’ performance against Villa.
But the footage was immediately picked up by United fans and some supporters felt the pair were discussing tactics rather than clashing with one another.
Ten Hag talks Man Utd after Villa defeat
Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford has been placed in the spotlight after the Red Devils’ recent run of results and performances.
The 54-year-old Dutchman, who inked a new contract extension in the summer, insisted that there is an internal feeling at United that the club are “disappointed.”
“I think […] you said it very good: external noise,” Ten Hag said, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“Internal? We are disappointed and we know we have to do better. Especially, we need to score more because that is, in this moment, the area after this block of games where we are really short.
“All the other areas, I think we are doing really well: four clean sheets, so that tells something about the defending, organisation.
“Also, the defending of defensive transitions, we are doing really well, so we are really improving on that point.
“Our build-up play is good, we are calm, composed. We are creating the chances, apart from today.
“Today, we should create more. But, yeah, in that area, in the box of the opponent, we have to be more ruthless, more clinical, more killing, and we have to work on this.”
