Man Utd fans all in agreement about Alejandro Garnacho after performance vs Aston Villa, two major points emerge

Manchester United fans couldn’t hold back their feelings about Alejandro Garnacho’s performance vs Aston Villa in the 0-0 Premier League draw at Villa Park on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag’s men secured a late comeback draw against Porto on Thursday in the Europa League, despite initially leading 2-0 in the first half at the Estadio do Dragao.

The 54-year-old Manchester United manager had been under immense pressure going into the Aston Villa match after last month’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.

United have won only two of their first seven Premier League matches under Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag ahead of the October international break.

Ten Hag’s side are 14th in the Premier League table after securing a point at Villa Park, with the Dutchman’s long-term future at Old Trafford shrouded in mystery.

Garnacho starts for Man Utd vs Aston Villa

Erik ten Hag deployed Alejandro Garnacho out on the right wing ahead of Amad Diallo and Antony for the 0-0 draw against Premier League side Aston Villa.

Garnacho has faced increasing competition from Amad Diallo, who had an impressive pre-season with United, for the 2024-25 campaign.

The 20-year-old Spain-born winger has impressed at times this season, with Garnacho scoring four times and registering three assists in 10 matches.

Garnacho had come off the bench for a second-half cameo performance against Porto in Portugal after he replaced Marcus Rashford in the Europa League tie.

But the Argentina international played alongside Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes for the Villa match, with Rasmus Hojlund deployed in attack.

Garnacho saw out the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw at Villa Park and the United star produced a steady display, despite failing to make an impact on the scoresheet.

However, the United winger failed to capitalise during an injury-time counterattack after his poorly aimed pass to Bruno Fernandes was intercepted in the final third.

Man Utd fans react to Garnacho vs Aston Villa

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were far from impressed with Garnacho’s pass during United’s injury-time counterattack.

Red Devils supporters were also furious with Ten Hag for subbing off Rashford in the second half for Antony, with the England star narrowly escaping a red card.

United fans are now convinced that Garnacho should have come off instead of Rashford and the winger should not be starting ahead of Amad Diallo.

One X user wrote: “Diallo scores or assists this [Man United’s injury-time counterattack]. Rashford deserved to stay on instead of Garnacho. Ten Hag’s subs are always off the mark.”

“And no, Garnacho is not better than Rashford, not even slightly and he never will be,” another tweeted.

Someone else posted: “The fact Ten Hag subbed on Antony for Rashford and kept Garnacho playing is insane.”

“That was such a simple pass for Garnacho [the injury-time counterattack]. Ten Hag taking off Rashford cost us there,” a fourth said.

Another commented: “Amad should be starting over Garnacho.”

And a sixth added: “Is it just me, or Garnacho can’t actually dribble a defender 1v1? He needs to do more and should’ve been substituted for Amad Diallo.”

Somebody else tweeted: “Can’t lie: Rashy [was] the most dangerous again [and] subbed, Garnacho [was] poor in decisions, Bruno [was] a passenger, Rasmus [was a] passenger, Amad didn’t touch the field. Ten Hag is losing me more and more each week.”

An eighth said: “What does Amad have to do to become a regular starter? Garnacho was horrendous today.”
