Chido Obi-Martin’s comments will be music to the ears of Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim and a warning to two other players about their need to step up.

The 17-year-old highly rated Manchester United talent arrived at Old Trafford after he left Arsenal’s youth academy set-up in 2024 and moved to the Red Devils.

Chido Obi-Martin has been part of the United youth academy and the United player has already caught the eye of Ruben Amorim in the 2024-25 campaign.

Amorim has already handed Chido Obi his United first-team debut after he came off the bench in the 1-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham earlier this month.

Following his brief cameo against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Chido Obi secured more minutes against Everton in the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

What did Chido Obi say in first Man Utd interview?

Chido Obi-Martin is set to cross paths with former side Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup on Friday, with kick-off slated 7pm UK time.

Ahead of the quarter-final tie at the Emirates, Manchester United dropped a seven-minute video documenting the FA Youth Cup progression in the 2024-25 season.

The video included the moment when Chido Obi was speaking in his first United interview after he scored a hat-trick against Chelsea Under-18s earlier this month.

“I love to score goals, and I love to help the team to win in this big competition, so yeah, it’s really good,” Chido Obi said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

Chido Obi’s comments and two Man Utd stars

United manager Ruben Amorim will no doubt welcome the confidence that Chido Obi is showing at Old Trafford after his arrival from Arsenal.

Chido Obi will likely receive more first-team experience and minutes under Amorim before the season is out, but his interview also sums up a big problem United face.

Amorim has seen a major goalscoring drought since his arrival from Sporting CP last November and United’s forward options have struggled in the 2024-25 campaign.

Rasmus Hojlund looks shot of confidence and the 22-year-old Danish forward has not scored for United since his brace against Viktoria Plzen last December.

Joshua Zirkzee has earned praise for his link-up play and other aspects of his performances, but the 23-year-old Dutch forward has also been criticised.

The Netherlands striker, who arrived at Old Trafford last summer, has lacked the all-important goalscoring contribution that Amorim’s men have desperately needed.

Rasmus Hojlund has netted seven times in 34 matches this season and Joshua Zirkzee has only scored five times in 39 fixtures in the current campaign.
