What Brighton and Man City were singing about Man Utd sums up Ruben Amorim’s trouble at Old Trafford

Manchester United are back in crisis mode and it’s a familiar entity that has pushed them there, with Brighton winning 3-1 at Old Trafford.

It’s their third win in a row at Old Trafford, something that only Manchester City have done, and continues the trend of Brighton being Man Utd’s bogey team.

However, unfortunately for United, that’s not where Brighton’s similarities with Man City finish. In fact, the 3-1 loss to Brighton is only the tip of the iceberg.

On this infamous day, United were mocked at two different games, with both Brighton and Man City fans singing the same thing in their respective games.

The biggest trouble facing Ruben Amorim right now couldn’t be clearer.

What Brighton and Man City fans sang about Man Utd

The Seagulls were full value for their result even though they were helped by Andre Onana and Noussair Mazraoui having nightmare games, to name just two.

The referee seemed determined to turn the tide in Brighton’s favour but United did a fine job of ensuring that happened without his help too.

Things were so bad that during the game, Brighton fans could be heard chanting something that even Man Utd fans would whole-heartedly agree with.

They sang, “We thought you were back, but you’re still s–t”, in reference to United’s positive results and performances against Liverpool and Arsenal, which already feel like eons ago.

Most United fans would relate to that sentiment as there was a true feeling of optimism, albeit a cautious one, after those two results but the reality has been laid bare again after this result and even the performance against Southampton.

City fans, meanwhile, added insult to injury, catching on Ruben Amorim’s shock claim and revelling in their victory at Ipswich.

They sang, “You’re going down with United,” to Ipswich as a shot at their city rivals, and with United closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top-four, it is up to the Man Utd squad to change that narrative.

Ruben Amorim tears into Man Utd

Fans have full right to mock United considering their current predicament, especially rival fans, but Ruben Amorim was in no mood to comfort anyone after the game.

Generally, he’s been supportive of the players after a defeat and brought them down after a win but he took no prisoners after the Brighton loss.

He called this iteration the “worst Manchester United side in the history”, accepting that he was giving everyone a headline.

In addition, he assumed the responsibility that he needed to help the players better but at the time time, tore into them for changing positions on their own near the end of the game.

He said: “At the end of the game, everybody was changing position… that is something I will not see again. We can lose, but we have to maintain position.

“We’re being the worst team in Man United history and we have to change that.”

Amorim is not far off agreeing with the City and Brighton fanbase. Perhaps that finally spurs the players to find form again. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
