Manchester United are preparing to take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.
The Red Devils will welcome Fabian Hurzeler’s Seagulls to Old Trafford on Sunday and will be desperate to perform in front of a jam-packed home crowd.
However, even though just four points are separating these two sides, their head-to-head record in recent times suggests the away team will be the ones who will come out on top.

Brighton’s recent domination against Man United
These two teams don’t have the longest history of playing each other.
Although their first-ever encounter took place in 1909, they’ve only played each other 20 times since. It’s the Seagulls who boast the better record in recent times, though.
Since 2022, the two sides have faced off six times in the Premier League, with Brighton coming out on top in five.
- 7 May 22 Brighton 4-0 Man United
- 7 Aug 22 Man United 1-2 Brighton
- 4 May 23 Brighton 1-0 Man United
- 16 Sep 23 Man United 1-3 Brighton
- 19 May 24 Brighton 0-2 Man United
- 24 Aug 24 Brighton 2-1 Man United
The teams did meet in the FA Cup semi-final in 2023. Although that game against Brighton ended in a 0-0 draw, United booked their place in the final after winning on penalties.
Seagulls expected to go one better than Saints
After seeing their recent head-to-head record, it is no surprise that pundits, including Paul Merson, have tipped Brighton to beat United later this weekend.
Despite Ruben Amorim coming into Sunday’s matchup in winning form after United beat Southampton 3-1 last time out, the nature of that performance will cast huge doubt over the team’s ability to make it two wins from two.
Had it not been for a lightning-fast hat-trick from Amad Diallo, the Saints would’ve handed the Red Devils their 10th defeat of the season.

Although Ivan Juric’s side failed to see that match through, many, including some of United’s own supporters, will be worried Brighton will go one better.
Sunday’s match at Old Trafford is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m. (UK time) but has not been chosen to be broadcast live on TV in the UK.
