Man Utd player ratings vs Brighton, Andre Onana’s horrible error but 3/10 teammate was embarrassed all game

Manchester United’s bogey team put them under the cosh again as Brighton walked away from Old Trafford with another win, this time 3-1.

A nightmare start to the game saw Man Utd go down in the first five minutes courtesy of Yankuba Minteh scoring from Mitoma’s assist into an open goal.

United didn’t let their levels drop and Amad led the press which caused Zirkzee to get fouled in the box, Bruno Fernandes dispatching the resulting penalty.

VAR came to United’s rescue (for once!) in the second half when Brighton’s goal was cancelled for a kick on Dalot during the buildup.

It was only a momentary relief though as Mitoma converted from Minteh’s cross soon after to restore Brighton’s lead.

Onana then lent a helping hand for Brighton’s third when he spilled a routine cross and ended United’s chances of making a comeback.

Here’s how the players rated-

Andre Onana – 3

An unforgivably horrible gaffe in the second half when he spilled a harmless cross and let Brighton score their third. It ended United’s chances.

Leny Yoro – 6

Was able to exorcise the demons of Southampton to a great extent with a no-fuss display. Not at fault for any goal.

Harry Maguire – 5

Pedro gave some trouble and Brighton’s pacy front line was perhaps not the best match for him.

Matthijs de Ligt – 6.5

Combative and assertive in defence. Regularly stepped out to meet the attacker up high. Crucial clearance near the end of the first half.

Noussair Mazraoui -3

Caught napping by Mitoma’s runs in behind multiple times in the starting stages and Brighton’s second again came as Mitoma won that duel at the back post. Embarrassed all game by the Japanese international before coming off.

Diogo Dalot – 7

Showed a newfound willingness to work with his left foot and go outside which led him to beat his man multiple times in attack. Resilient in defense.

Manuel Ugarte – 5

Struggling to match the pace of the game amid a cluttered fixture list and clearly tired but still his usual, combative self.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6.5

Outnumbered in midfield but used his physicality to great effect and the touch of class on the ball was present which enabled him to beat the Brighton press.

Bruno Fernandes – 6.5

His penalty was never in doubt but his influence waned in the second half as Brighton piled on the misery.

Amad – 8

Buzzed about and made things happen regularly despite increased attention on him. Led the press which caused the penalty and was a thorn throughout.

Joshua Zirkzee – 7.5

Brilliantly held up the ball and brought others into the game to keep his good run of form going. Manufactured the penalty with a nice turn in the box.

Substitutes

Alejandro Garnacho – 5

Immediately involved, especially on transitions, but looked incapable of beating his man. Outmuscled often.

Toby Collyer – 5

Sloppy in possession and too eager to win the ball back at times which led to needless fouls. Referee Peter Bankes needed a reason anyway.

Antony – 6

Came on late for probably his last appearance for United this season before a loan move.

Rasmus Hojlund – 6

Didn’t show anything after coming in late to say he should start against Rangers over Zirkzee.
