Andre Onana had a nightmare night in Europe again for Manchester United after his costly howlers against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.

The 29-year-old Manchester United No 1 had already been placed under the spotlight even before the ball had been kicked in the Europa League tie.

Andre Onana took aim at Lyon with some early trash-talking of the French side after United’s 0-0 Premier League draw against Manchester City at Old Trafford last Sunday.

The former Inter Milan and Ajax star’s comments sparked fierce criticism, including ex-United and Chelsea man Nemanja Matic dropping a ruthless dig on Onana.

Onana’s bravado came back to haunt him during United’s encounter with Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final clash at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Ruben Amorim’s men had to settle for a 2-2 draw in the Europa League on Thursday evening, despite United leading Lyon in the dying stages of the match in France.

However, Onana produced a horror show performance for United on the European stage and the Cameroonian was left with egg on his face after his mistakes.

What Man Utd star Andre Onana was doing at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais ahead of the Europa League quarter-final match vs Lyon

Thiago Almada opened the scoring for Lyon in the first half after Andre Onana failed to read and prevent the 23-year-old Argentine’s direct free-kick in the match.

Leny Yoro cancelled out Thiago Almada’s opener in first-half injury time before Joshua Zirkzee came on in the second half and put the Red Devils in the lead.

However, Manchester United’s lead was short-lived after Onana caused another error that led to Lyon snatching a crucial equaliser in second-half injury time.

Georges Mikautadze’s close-range strike led to Onana pushing the ball into a dangerous area and Rayan Cherki pounced on the opportunity and scored for Lyon.

TNT Sports shared footage of United No 1 Onana taking to the pitch at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais ahead of the 2-2 Europa League draw against Lyon.

Onana could be seen walking over to one of the nets where the Lyon ‘ultras’ were stationed and the former Ajax star was checking the net over in front of them.

The Cameroon international had his earphones in and was met with a flurry of noise from the Lyon ultras who were behind the net at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Ruben Amorim asked if Andre Onana was distracted by the crowd at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon and Man Utd’s Europa League clash

Speaking after the Europa League result, United manager Ruben Amorim admitted that he was unsure if Onana had been impacted by the fans on Thursday evening.

“I don’t know, that can happen,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“The best thing is to look at the goals and all the actions that Andre has had in the game and to talk with [goalkeeper coaches Jorge] Vital and Craig [Mawson].

“This is the best way to help any player – to focus on the game, what happened, what we need to improve and then put the player [in] again.”

United and Lyon will now meet in their important second-leg Europa League quarter-final tie at Old Trafford on 17th April.
