Man Utd player ratings vs Lyon, Leny Yoro the standout but awful 2/10 teammate is on thin ice

Manchester United took on Lyon over in France for the Europa League quarter-final and managed to take a 2-2 draw back to Old Trafford.

The game started well for Manchester United, with the better of the early chances falling to the visitors. However, Lyon got lucky with a wide free-kick creeping past Andre Onana in goal, which was a terrible error from the Cameroonian.

United were able to restore parity on the stroke of half-time through Leny Yoro as he scored an instinctive header after a Manuel Ugarte volley ended up being a perfect assist.

During the second half, United were the better team, but the game was there for the taking, and both teams could have won it.

However, it was United who thought they had claimed a winner through Joshua Zirkzee. But Rayan Cherki took advantage of a second Onana error on the stroke of full-time, setting it up perfectly for next week.

United will feel next week at Old Trafford, they can beat this Lyon side.

Here’s how the players rated…

Andre Onana – 2

He was terrible for the Lyon opener, with a major error allowing an indirect free-kick to sneak into the far post. Latest bad night in a long list for the goalkeeper. Also made the mistake which handed Cherki the equaliser. Awful performance.

Noussair Mazraoui – 5

Mazraoui had some rocky moments giving the ball away. He was spun by Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze at one point, which almost resulted in a goal. Corentin Tolisso also embarrassed him at one stage but finished poorly.

Harry Maguire – 6

Sloppy at times, gifting Lyon possession on occasion. However, overall was solid when called upon.

Leny Yoro – 7.5

Dealt with everything Lyon threw at him and looked like the most reliable United defender. Scored the equaliser for United at a crucial time. What a time to score.

Diogo Dalot – 5.5

Had some good moments down the right but was too often not in the right positions to support Garnacho.

Casemiro – 5.5

After a brilliant Manchester derby, this was more like the performances which frustrated fans earlier this season. Still had a decent game though.

Manuel Ugarte – 6

Provided the assist for Yoro’s goal – even if unintentionally – while keeping Lyon at bay in a defensive manner. Picked up a silly booking in the second half.

Patrick Dorgu – 6

A constant threat down the left for United and created a couple of good chances while being strong defensively against Rayan Cherki.

Bruno Fernandes – 6.5

Far from his usual standards, but still had some moments of brilliance. Should be moved back into a deeper role next week as he shined and provided an assist after being moved back in the 72nd minute.

Rasmus Hojlund – 4

Missed a massive chance early in the first half while it was 0-0, another reminder of why United need a new striker this summer. Taken off in the 62nd minute, and he was lucky to last that long.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5

Won a lot of fouls, with one resulting in the Yoro equaliser. Still far from good enough, with his threat on the ball and blundering a three-on-two counterattack, missed a big chance to take the lead.

Joshua Zirkzee – 7

Replacing Hojlund, the Dutchman was silent but stepped up to score the winner for United. Huge goal in the context of United’s season. Surely set to start next week now.

Mason Mount – 5.5

Showed some promising signs once again after his 72nd-minute introduction. Looks like a sure starter if he can stay fit.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5.5

Looked sharp on his return to action after two months out.

Victor Lindelof – 5

Little to report as he barely got a touch.
