Bruno Fernandes wrote his name in Premier League record books in 2025/26, but Wes Brown still can’t believe one detail about it.

As soon as Patrick Dorgu thumped in a header on the final day against Brighton off Bruno Fernandes‘ cross, the Man Utd captain became immortalised in Premier League record books.

21 assists in a Premier League season put him alone at the top of the single-season assist charts, ahead of Kevin de Bruyne and Thierry Henry at 20.

Despite achieving history, Wes Brown looked back on his season and still finds one detail unbelievable about it all.

Bruno Fernandes’ unbelievable detail in PL assist record

An interesting thing to note about Fernandes’ assist record is that his chances created didn’t increase much from his usual standards.

Put simply, he has always been a record-breaking creator; it’s just that his teammates have been very wasteful.

With a revamped forward line in 2025/26, he broke the record that should have been his long before it actually happened.

Despite that, Brown said he looked back at some of the chances Fernandes created this season, and found it unbelievable that he didn’t fly past 20 assists instead of barely edging past them.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Inside Carrington podcast, Brown said, “You know what’s funny as well, and Kevin De Bruyne and we probably have got these as well, but someone on TikTok has put what he should have had.

“So the chances that he’s made, that honestly some of the some of the chances that the lads have missed. Unbelievable.”

Fernandes can break his own record soon

Brown’s observation is absolutely correct, because these 21 assists have come despite his teammates missing some truly shocking chances.

Now that the forward line have one season in their pockets to get comfortable at the club, they will be even more lethal next season.

Combine that with a revamped midfield, reducing Fernandes’ mobility responsibilities, and the stage is set for another evolution in his game.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him fly past 21 assists as soon as next season, perhaps setting one of those unbreakable records which cement him as the greatest creator in PL history.
