Manchester United and England icon Wayne Rooney has highlighted the “main thing” that one of Ruben Amorim’s key first-team players showed against Brighton on Saturday.
The 40-year-old Premier League legend dropped his two cents on Manchester United’s stunning 4-2 win over Brighton at Old Trafford on the weekend.
United took complete control of the Premier League tie on Saturday evening and the Red Devils were comfortably leading Brighton 3-0 at one stage in the match.
Matheus Cunha broke the deadlock in the first half for United before Casemiro extended his side’s advantage over Brighton in the 34th minute at Old Trafford.
Bryan Mbeumo then had an impact for United against Brighton after he scored in the 61st minute, but the Seagulls fought back in the dying stages of the contest.
Danny Welbeck cut down the deficit after his stunning free-kick for the Seagulls before Charalampos Kostoulas found the back of the net in injury time.

Wayne Rooney’s powerful reaction to Bryan Mbeumo’s Man Utd performance vs Brighton at Old Trafford
Manchester United were able to squash concerns about a late equaliser from Brighton after Bryan Mbeumo had an impact for a second time on the proceedings.
A standout performer for Ruben Amorim’s men this season, Mbeumo signed off his stunning display in Saturday’s 4-2 Premier League win by completing his brace.
The 26-year-old French-born winger’s sensational showing at Old Trafford on the weekend caught the eye of Wayne Rooney for all of the right reasons.
Speaking on BBC Sport’s The Wayne Rooney Show, the United legend said: “He has [shown consistency], and he’s had some really good chances in games as well and just not taken them.
“But I think his energy, his work rate, his desire is what you need to be a Man United player.
“And yeah, I did say that was a little bit unsure, but I think what he’s shown is he belongs there.
“You know, there’s been obviously Cunha coming in, great to see him get his goal. But he’s been consistent with his performances. I think that’s the main thing.”
Wayne Rooney’s massive compliment about Bryan Mbeumo after Man Utd’s 4-2 Premier League win against Brighton
Mbeumo has deeply impressed for United since his arrival from Brentford in the summer and he has scored five times in 10 appearances for the Red Devils.
Rooney waxed lyrical about the Cameroon international’s attacking input and United’s all-time scorer believes that he is the Red Devils’ best signing of the season.
The former England and United striker continued: “If you’re consistently getting [in the] right positions, getting chances, you will score, what was it, 20 goals last season he scored for Brentford?
“And now he started, when you’re a forward, you score goals, you enjoy scoring goals and that feeling keeps going. And that’s why you see players going on streaks.”
Rooney added: “Going on streaks, you’ve scored eight, nine, 10, 11 goals [on] a bounce.
“And then maybe when you don’t score for a few games, and his confidence is very high at the minute.
“And hopefully that continues because, you know, he’s been certainly the best signing for Manchester United this season.”
United are now sixth in the Premier League table and are only one point outside of the top four after winning their last three matches in the league this season.
