Benjamin Sesko has been slammed with a lot of unfair criticism at Manchester United, having failed to be an immediate success at the club.
For Manchester United, the 2025/26 summer transfer window can already be considered a grand success.
Bryan Mbeumo is already performing consistently for United, while Matheus Cunha has been excellent despite not boasting the same goal record as his teammate.

Senne Lammens has also been a massive improvement in goalkeeping compared to both Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana. Benjamin Sesko has had a solid start at United, but despite encouraging signs, the Slovenian has come under fire from the media.

Wayne Rooney shares verdict on Benjamin Sesko
Sesko has two goals for Manchester United and a host of positive performances, with good hold-up play and strong number nine moments.
Sesko has almost been a victim of United’s success in the transfer market, but he was never expected to be an immediate hit, with the pressure more on Cunha and Mbeumo.
Now, discussing the striker, Wayne Rooney has admitted he thinks the narrative is wrong, disagreeing with the criticism while appearing on The Overlap’s fan debate.
“I think he’s gone through a bit of a tough time in terms of goalscoring, but I think what he brings, and I agree with what Adam said in terms of, I think the keeper’s come in and done well, and he’s been more direct into Sesko, but what we’re seeing now is he can compete, he does hold the ball up better than Hojlund does, and we’re seeing as the ball’s gone up to him, and Mbeumo making runs in behind Cunha, making runs in behind Mason Mount at times, when he’s playing, making runs in behind him.
“So because they know he’ll compete and he’ll win flick-ons and he’ll do that. So I think he has been better than what people may be suggesting, but I still think he needs to just get the ball, get all, lay it off, get in the box, and hope the chances are created for him.”
Sesko has been a massive improvement on anything United have had for years, and Rooney is just right to be supporting him to work out.
Benjamin Sesko will be a success for Manchester United
Against Tottenham, Sesko picked up a knee injury, which isn’t expected to be too serious, but if he faces an absence, it will be a sore one for the Red Devils.
Sesko has been impressive for United overall this season since joining, with his all-around game benefiting the team and making him valuable beyond just goals.
Amorim has admitted being shocked by Sesko and his clear ability, labelling the Slovenian a ‘control freak’ and backing him to be a massive success for United in the future.
Sesko was signed for his unlimited potential and not to be an instant fix, which was something most were in acknowledgement of in the summer, yet the goalposts have shifted. This was the case with Gary Neville’s disappointing criticism of Sesko, which was poorly judged.
United can expect Sesko to kick on over the next 10 months, but he needs time.
