Wayne Rooney is looking to use his Manchester United connections to strengthen his Plymouth Argyle squad on deadline day.
Manchester United’s all-time top scorer was appointed Plymouth manager back in May after he was sacked from his previous role at Birmingham City.
It is Wayne Rooney‘s fourth managerial role after previously taking charge of Derby County and DC United.
Rooney has often called upon his connections at Old Trafford as a manager, with United academy product Teden Mengi joining him at Derby County in 2021.
Now with Plymouth, he is looking to sign a former United academy star in the shape of Ravel Morrison.

Wayne Rooney wants to sign Ravel Morrison
Rooney’s Plymouth side have suffered a poor start to the season with two draws and a defeat in their opening three games leaving them in the relegation zone.
Now looking for any late additions to add to his squad, Rooney has set his sights on Morrison, who played alongside him at Old Trafford.
The transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Friday, but clubs can continue to sign free agents beyond the window, so there is no deadline for Plymouth signing Morrison.
Rooney has previously signed Morrison for both Derby County and DC United and he is now looking to reunite with the 31-year-old for a third time.
According to The Sun, Rooney has always been close with Morrison and he believes the Jamaican international can “do a job” for him and Plymouth this season.
Morrison was recently at Carrington to play for a PFA XI against Manchester United’s under-21 side.
Plymouth have reportedly watched Morrison in action in the behind-closed-doors friendly as they consider offering him a deal.
Ravel Morrison was tipped to become a star
Morrison’s career path makes for tough viewing given what was said about his potential as a youngster.
Former United star Rio Ferdinand has recalled what Sir Alex Ferguson thought of Morrison during his academy days.
Speaking on talkSport, Ferdinand said: “I was at [United] when he was there. Probably the most gifted, the most naturally gifted young kid I’ve ever seen.
“Sir Alex Ferguson, I remember, he called me and Wazza [Wayne Rooney] over one day and said: ‘look at this kid, he’s better than you, Rooney when you were a kid, he’s better than you, Rio, better than Ryan Giggs when you were kids. This is the best kid you will ever see.”
Former Under-18s coach Paul McGuinness also made comparisons between Morrison and Lionel Messi.
“It was like Messi,” he told the UTD podcast. “He’d wait for you, wait for you to go closer and closer. Close to the fire, without getting burnt and get close, then he just play it.

“And you’d be like ‘oh, you’d better pass it now’ and he wouldn’t.
”You couldn’t tell him when to play it. No, he was too good for that, in that sense.”
Despite struggling at Derby and DC United, Rooney will be hoping that Morrison can finally unlock some of his potential at Plymouoth.
