One of Manchester United’s once promising youth stars is set to return to Carrington for an unusual match.
Ravel Morrison is set to feature in a friendly match for a PFA XI against Manchester United’s under-21 side.
The PFA XI is made up of free agents trying to develop their match sharpness as they bid to try and attract new clubs.
Morrison is the most high-profile of the PFA squad, with the game marking a return to Manchester United’s training ground for the once prodigious youngster.

Ravel Morrison returning to Carrington
Ravel Morrison will feature in the behind closed doors friendly game for the PFA XI, which should be a useful opportunity for both teams. It is not expected the result will be publicised.
Morrison is now 31 and has been a free agent since a spell in Major League Soccer with DC United.
Prior to this he played at Derby County, in what has become a nomadic career taking in stints in Mexico, Italy, Norway, and the Netherlands.
FA Youth Cup winner was tipped for the top
Ravel Morrison was part of Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup winning side in 2011, alongside Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard.
Prior to United winning the 2022 FA Youth Cup, they were the last Red Devils side to triumph in the competition.
Morrison did make his Manchester United debut in 2010, but he could not win the trust of Sir Alex Ferguson amid off-field problems.
He pushed through a free agent exit to West Ham, where he began well and featuring in the Premier League, before falling out of favour, and despite many moves, has struggled to reignite his career.
Former United star Rio Ferdinand has always talked up Morrison’s talent, previously telling Talksport: “I was at [United] when he was there. Probably the most gifted, the most naturally gifted young kid I’ve ever seen.
“Sir Alex Ferguson, I remember, he called me and Wazza [Wayne Rooney] over one day and said: ‘look at this kid, he’s better than you, Rooney when you were a kid, he’s better than you, Rio, better than Ryan Giggs when you were kids. This is the best kid you will ever see.”
A brief return to Carrington may spark some of Morrison’s old magic.
