Wayne Rooney has lavished praise on the one first-team Manchester United player who has delivered under Ruben Amorim amid a turbulent season at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have had a woeful 2024-25 Premier League campaign and the Red Devils are 14th in the table with only five league matches remaining.
The Red Devils fell to their 15th Premier League defeat of the season after Wolves inflicted a 1-0 win over United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
United are unlikely to finish in the top half of the table and the Red Devils are tipped for their worst finish in the table in the Premier League era.
The Red Devils are expected to miss out on a European qualification spot in their league campaign and their hopes now hinge on their success in the Europa League.
United are through to the semi-finals of the Europa League and the tournament is Ruben Amorim’s last chance of securing silverware at Old Trafford this season.
The Europa League also offers United a chance of securing European football for next season and a route back to the Champions League for the 2025-26 campaign.

Premier League legend Wayne Rooney drops his clear-cut assessment on Man Utd and Portugal star Bruno Fernandes
Speaking to Amazon Prime Video, Wayne Rooney was asked to name his top five players in the Premier League this season and he singled out Bruno Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes has remained influential as ever on the Manchester United first-team squad and has been one of the most consistent players for the Red Devils.
The 30-year-old United captain has made 50 appearances across all competitions this season and Fernandes has scored 17 times and registered 18 assists for his side.
Rooney, who is United’s all-time leading scorer, revealed that Fernandes would be his pick for the No 5 spot for the best players in the Premier League this season.
“In fifth place, I think I’ll probably go with Bruno Fernandes,” he said.
“Obviously, Man United haven’t had a great season, but he’s been the one consistent player who keeps producing, so I’ll go with Bruno for number five.”
Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim highlighted Bruno Fernandes’ importance at Old Trafford
Bruno Fernandes extended his United contract last summer and the Red Devils midfielder is now tied down with the Premier League club until 2027.
The Portugal international’s future at the club had been in doubt in recent weeks before United manager Ruben Amorim shut down the speculation around Fernandes.
“It’s not going to happen,” Amorim said ahead of United’s defeat to Nottingham Forest earlier this month, as per Sky Sports.
The United head coach added: “That is the challenge. I want Bruno here.
“We want to win the Premier League again; we want the best players with us. He’s still so young because he plays 55 games every season.
“Between assists and goals, he’s there for 30 at least. He’s the player we want here, he’s not going anywhere.”
United will face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday before the Red Devils travel to Spain for their Europa League encounter with Athletic Bilbao.
