Vinicius Junior wasted no time sending a message to Wolves ace Matheus Cunha after Manchester United’s new signing picked up an assist for Brazil on Wednesday.

Brazil punched their ticket to the 2026 World Cup in North America next summer after Carlo Ancelotti’s men secured a 1-0 victory over Paraguay in their qualifier.

Brazil met Paraguay at the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo and Wolves forward Matheus Cunha was deployed behind Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior in attack.

Cunha wasted no time making a real impact on the contest after he set up Vini Jr for Brazil’s opener – and winner – in the first half of the World Cup qualifying tie.

The 26-year-old Brazilian attacker made a darting run into the Paraguay box after the Manchester United signing pounced on the loose ball in a dangerous area.

Cunha then drilled a low pass across from the right side of the box into the middle and an onrushing Vini Jr arrived in time to fire the ball into the back of the net.

Brazil are third in their World Cup qualifying table and the five-time World Cup champions are level on points with second-place Ecuador after 16 matches.

Defending World Cup champions Argentina are top of the South American qualifying table, with Lionel Scaloni’s men 10 points clear of both Ecuador and Brazil.

Matheus Cunha played 79 minutes against Paraguay on Wednesday before Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti hooked off the soon-to-be Manchester United player.

The Brazil international made way for Flamengo midfielder Gerson, with Vinicius Junior’s first-half opener being the difference-maker between the two sides.

Vini Jr took to Instagram Stories after the World Cup qualifying match and the Real Madrid star shared a photo of himself alongside Brazil teammate Cunha on the plane.

The 24-year-old winger wrote the message of “obrigado pela assistencia” alongside a smirking emoji, with the translation to English being ‘thanks for the assistance.’

Vini Jr also wrote: “Let’s go to LA with [Nike].”

Wolves star Matheus Cunha has shown what he can offer Man Utd after his performance for Brazil against Paraguay

United announced that Cunha would leave Wolves this summer after the Red Devils triggered the Brazilian attacker’s £62.5m release clause earlier this month.

Cunha had been tipped to leave the Molineux at the end of the 2024-25 campaign and United were believed to be the firm favourites to land the Wolves ace.

The Brazil international enjoyed a superb season with Wolves and Cunha scored 17 times and picked up six assists in 36 matches across all competitions last season.

United have confirmed the deal to sign Cunha from Wolves, but the Brazil forward’s move to Old Trafford is pending his visa and registration requirements.

Cunha is the first major signing for Ruben Amorim this summer, as the United manager begins a major revamp of his first-team squad ahead of the new season.
